Matt coached my son's undefeated freshman team at Cal High. Great hire! I wonder if his dad Bill will be coaching the JV team? That's been a good combo in the past.

Dad was doing Liberty JV when Matt was OC.

From what I know, Bill really likes frosh; turning rawness (athletic kids who didn’t play youth) into eventual Varsity starters, some becoming All-League.

I hear that Matt will have his hands full with the departure of QB Butterfield and current talent at Liberty. When Matt was coaching the Grizzly freshman team Bill was coaching the JV at CHS. My son never actually played for Bill but he and the other boys really seemed to like him. Coaching freshman and/or JV is not easy with all programs geared towards the success of the varsity squad. Often losing your best players to the next higher squad.

Good hire for Liberty and I look forward to seeing what Matt can do with the program. Definitely is well respected in the area.

It isn't for everyone, but coaching frosh/jv seems to me to be one of the purest things you can do in coaching. Results matter, but they are usually more of a footnote and that molding of players with little to no experience will be rewarding.
