NCS open-division 3 seedings

Observer,

I said the same thing on this thread on Dec 17th. Ive seen most of the top teams play in the NCS and there is no way Moreau should be in the Open. This is leading me to believe that the creators of the list are family/friends/fans of the program.

Salesian
DLS
SRV
Dublin
Campolindo
California
St. Mary's
Terra Linda
Ygnaico Valley
Clayton Valley

In my opinion are the 10 in NCS right now. Of course this will change as you get past holiday tourneys and move towards league.

MC actually has a chance in D2 or D3 to represent the north, they have no chance in open or D1.
I don’t know if I’d go quite that far. Moreau (& Dougherty) would be competitive with all but the top teams on that list. It will depend on how they progress during the season before the playoff gauntlet.

Terra Linda ... C'mon. They haven't played anybody with a heartbeat. They are up in the Sonoma County Classic and should face Cardinal Newman for the Champ. That will be a good test.

Imagine NCS was sitting down in February to figure out the brackets. You can’t have Terra in div 1 or st Mary’s . Once you get out of the open group no longer is it a pure power ranking list.

We’re pretty aggressive on California’s ranking. You’re putting california in the open? At this moment! Why?

Terra is open or div 2.

Why do you have Terra Linda as the eighth rank team ?

I may be wrong so forgive me but my understanding is that the NCS Open is now open to all team from all divisions if you end up in the final top 6 in the section determined by Maxpreps.com

My list above was what was currently the top 10 (According to maxpreps.com) With my own movement based on what Ive seen from the teams that I watched. (Thus St. Mary's High, Terra Linda and California are in the top 10 so I moved them based on what Ive seen)

My other understanding is that if you dont make the top 6 (open) then you have to be in your enrollment division (or up 2 or down 2) so if St. Mary's High does not crack the top 6 in the final NCS rankings on Maxpreps then the highest they can go is D2 (or D3) same as Moreau, Salesian, Cardinal Newman and Urban.

DLS will be Open
Dougherty will be D1 or Open
Campo will be Open or D1 (D2 possible)
Salesian will be Open or D2
California will be D1 (Or open if they can beat SRV, DeLa or Dublin and or Dougherty)
Salesian will be Open
St. Mary's will be Open or D2 (or D3)
SRV will be Open or D1
Clayton Valley will D1 (unless they beat campo twice and win their league)
Moreau will be D2 (or D3 depending on how they finish)

I was just using the data available from maxpreps since the NCS will use it exactly as they have it at the end of the season.

Christmas is coming and nothing better than imagining the section playoff seedings. With the new format starting, it is shaping up to be very interesting. Especially interesting when we start to evolve into latter part of div 1 and all of div 2.

I don't know if the selction committee uses MaxPreps for NCS, but I went and looked today at the top 6 teams listed by MaxPreps and they are as follows:

DLS
Salesian
Dublin
Campolindo
Liberty (Brentwood)
California (San Ramon)

SRV is #7
Dougherty (Stokes is eligible) is #12
Redwood (TT is eligible) is #18

Road looks tough for Dougherty and Redwood.

They do use max preps

Both have the players and transfers they need . Stick them in anyways and if not deserving up the entry count . Let’s see who the best coaches are out of this group

Let's not forget what happened in football where they went STRICTLY by Max Preps and ignored (for the most part) h2h and common opponents.

San Marin LOST TO VINTAGE 2 weeks BEFORE sections and still got put as the 8th seed in the OPEN (MaxPreps) while Vintage got the 8th seed in D2 and Liberty the Max Preps 9 seed (despite being a D1 team and 2nd place in their legue to Pitts) got the 1 seed in D2. (And in a straight middlenfinger to San Marin had Liberty play that same aforementioned Vintage in the D2 1st round and smoked Vintage 35-7).

My point being is all the speculation about h2h and everything else( based on the football seedings) don't matter. One can only assume the basketball seeding will go by MaxPreps period also.

Stupid and Lazy...

Hopefully they don’t use this model. If they did, it would severely damage the spirit of competition.

What is this model?

Campolindo is not an open bracket team. They started on fire and have cooled off. Teacher/Coach had them coached up and now talent is catching them. Only way is if competition has a bunch of injuries. Campolindo is semi high level div 1 .

Livermore div 1 ??? NOhhh

St Helena 8 seed div 2 - they have played nobody

Sidenote: We like how you listed their base division 👍

Middletown div 2 ?

Hopefully they use this as motivation to go out and pull some upsets off in North coast.

In the meantime they are division 4

You added sos to the spreadsheet

It did not change the seeding results

Yes that's correct. The NCS states that schools are seeded within the brackets based on their MaxPreps ranking (not SOS), but no more than two divisions higher or lower than their base division (Note: All teams are eligible for the Open, regardless of base division).

They make the seedings in February. With the understanding the calculator will have more data to create decent results. Until we get to late January. Humans can provide more clarity than MaxPreps. Hence the point of creating the “real NCS list” for the NorCal preps community.

Thank you for creating the spreadsheet and taking the time to do so. You are adding value for all.

With the new system are the first 6 ranked
Teams at the end automatically being placed in the open or can you decline and go into your regular division slot?

Not confirmed - if your in top 6 . Your in the open. No drop outs. Committee can adjust up or down from within the bracket only.
