Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle (63) vs. Centennial (42)

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Talk about D1 talent. CC has at least 4 or 5 on offense alone. DLS is still relatively young. No wonder there is talk of going to Texas next year.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Totally agree with you on the speed. Even the DLS coach can't believe how undisciplined they were that half and how bad the tackling was. Looks like they may be starting to figure it out a little bit on Defense now. Thats a good sign

They are young when it comes to their elite talent and defensively. They will lose 2 of their 3 top WR's, most of the O-line, one of the TE's along with Je'vari Anderson who would be a starting RB on many Spartan teams and is also their best cover corner. But Spartan fans have been talking about this junior class since the first time they played and Boss was called up to varsity in the middle of the season. Easily the best in awhile, although that group with Hutchings, Hooper, Egu, and Moffitt was pretty special.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

If CC can't score and even this up on the first drive in the 2nd half look for DLS to go up by 2 scores and then I think it will be too much of an uphill battle for CC.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

DLS hasn't been close to stopping the QB keep play. You don't see a repeated mistake like that from the Spartans.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Centennial ties it up on their opening drive. Too many missed tackles for the Spartans. Centennial's quickness is playing a big role in that.

35-35 with 9:18 left in Q3.

They've always struggled with mobile QB's, Servite and Byrnes called that play a few times and had success.

Very good point. I don't remember them getting gashed like this, but I could be wrong.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Either way two top 10 national heavyweights. DLS tackling and defense looked a little pedestrian at first. As FBAddict pointed out these are some
extraordinary skilled players, tops in the country. Hell CC did get same thing to the Bishop this year (and everyone else minus the first MD game).
Game will come down to adjustments and possibly last possesion.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

The tough part is that Centennial has two great receivers.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Option pitch to Custer gives DLS the lead back. DLS leads 41-35 with 520 left in Q3 pending the extra point.

This has been as good of a day of high school football as we could ask for.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Most points scored on DLS 39 since 1979

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

I believe Bellevue scored 39 in 2004 when they broke the streak.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

As Mark Jackson say, "Mama, there goes that man again." Javon McKinley returns the kickoff 92 yards to tie it at 42. Elite talent with grades to match.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Why???? Why would you kick to that kid?

I was thinking perfect time for an onside kick,

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

He has touched the ball 5 times and has 3 touchdowns

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

McKinley will play on Sundays.

If you were to take a look at most of their losses and close wins between 2006-present you would see a trend of dual threat QB's, Matt Scott and Taylor Martinez (CC), Brett Knief (Don Bosco 2008), Cody Jackson (Serra), McHugh (Bellarmine), Serra's smaller QB last season, the QB's from Lakeland and STA, even Rosen from SJB could run when needed. That's why I will continue to say as good as Browning is, he can't really hurt DLS with his legs.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

And the Spartans punch right back.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

I think that is five procedure penalties for De La Salle. Doesn't matter when Custer takes it to the house. The junior has four touchdowns.

49-42 DLS with 401 left in Q3.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

I'm glad I'm not keeping the stats on this game.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Level of play is incredible

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Is this the state football championship game or the track championships? jeez....

True - this is a problem!!!!!

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

They could call procedure on DLS a lot more. Lots of rolling starts .
Btw I'm thinking Folsom is a tier lower than these guys. Folsom doesn't have the speed. I'm not saying they wouldn't score but this is impressive .

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Why is CC even trying to throw?

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

this is honestly ridiculous, yeah the offenses are good but dls is running the VEER give me a break play some defense.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Anderson tips the ball and Lissarague gets the interception. DLS issued a personal foul after the play.

That could be the stop of the second half

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

First major offensive mistake of the game!

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

This may be crucial if DLS scores to go up two scores.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

#9 on CC must feel alone because he's the only one playing d.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Hernandez goes in from short to make it 55-42 with 155 left in Q4. Extra point was wide right.

DLS running game is mauling Centennial D. The gap is only going to increase the rest of the way.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Tough kid Larry!

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Big play down field to Bankhead. Centennial driving in DLS territory.

Re: Open Division Game Thread: De La Salle vs. Centennial

Cocky. Shoulda just ran the ball.
