Montgomery will meet El Cerritto for the NCS Division 2 Championship...Saturday at 8 pm at St. Mary's College
 
Good night in north bay. Newman, MC, and Monty rolled.
Newman gets basically a home game against MC at SRJC
 
Like I said if anybody comes within single digits of ODOWD I would be surprised. Different level all together.
 
Yes O'Dowd looks strong. But they will have to beat Moreau and 2 other strong teams to return to state. Stuff happens in sports. Even O'Dowd is a sprained ankle away from vulnerability. That's why we play the games on the court.
 
Larry you are usually very good but let's not pretend that MC didn't escape Salesian. They were down 10 with 3 to play. They made the plays to win and deserve credit but they could easily be at home. They have a Drake (from last year) feel.

They also have a win against the #2 rated team in the country Bishop Montgomery.......let's not forget that either
 
I understand the game was close but after seeing all these teams I've convinced that MC is better than all of the TCAL teams with exception of EC and that would be a good game. Same deal with Newman. And I don't think Monty is going to get blasted by EC. Everybody thought they couldn't hang with Dublin. Wrong.

MC beat the same team (Bishop Monty) that plays Etiwanda for the open champ in Scalif. If I'm not mistaken they are #1 ranked team in CA. That is the most impressive win by any Norcal team this year.

The winner of Newman and MC will be the favorite to represent the north in D4 for state.
 
Stunned that SMB lost so badly to CN.32-29 game in the 3rd quarter.What happened?
 
Wow,you north bay guys are a little full of yourselves right now,but congratulations on a fine showing by your teams.Yes this year MC is better than the majority of the TCAL,but that league has represented way more over the years in Norcals and State.Still the better league majority of the time.
 
I heard Newman just handled the press a lot better in 2nd half and soph Damien Wallance from Newman was the difference. Connor Rubattino from Newman is a scoring machine who put up 29. Newman took care of the ball and converted. They are just a really solid HS team. Not as good as the 2013 team that went to state though. But they are 29-2 so they must doing something ok and 1 of there loses is to NCS D2 finalist Monty.

One thing about the Newman and Monty's of the world is they aren't going to get outcoached in these games. I would put fitchie and bonfigli up against any of these schools.

Monty will hang with EC. Just watch. If its called tight they could pull the upset because Monty shoots the ball very well from the line. Big guy has been dominant. Dublin had no answer. Newman easily handled Las Lomas earlier in the year. Beat them by same margin as EC.

How so?? im curious? i think i made one post about MC in this thread, and it was just reminding you who has a win over the best team in California this year when you tried to devalue their win over Salesian......that was all......TCAL is far and away the better league in most years, never said it wasnt
 
Yes well Larry also had an "I told you Monty was good" moment.
They just ran the NCS D-2 gauntlet of Arroyo, Northgate and mighty Dublin to get to the section final. The 6-6 in league play 4th place Dublin Gaels.
We love Coach Fitchie and love to watch his kids play....but please. Beating 5th and 4th place teams should not get you to a section title game.
 
I agree with you Larry to an extent I think Montgomey will give Ec a hard time but only because of the big guy.He is the mismatch that Ec has no answer for but I warn you that stopping all the weapons El Cerrito has will be different than what they faced against an average Dublin team . El Cerrito is going to be a different beast than anything Montgomery has faced this season..Ec likes to run run and run some more and press press and press can Monty handle that ? We'll see...And its mandatory that Montgomery plays a zone this game if not this game will be over quick if they try to play man to man as El Cerrito easily has 7 or 8 players who can score in double figures....A couple things that might help Monty Ec doesn't get motivated always against teams that they are favored against if they underestimate this team they will lose. Ec is not a great free throw shooting team so that could be a factor .........I think Newman is the real deal they wil stop Marin's Cinderella season

Sorry LL I like MC over the Cards in a tight one. Sadly my daughter who could give a sh!t about the game is going and I am missing it so I can go to her stupid soccer registration night!
 
Bella- I feel for you. If you hear scores please update. I do think MC is the real deal and Calcattera will be a D1 player by his senior year. This one is going to be very close. Funny thing is section championships have eluded Newman in hoops. Hopefully they can pull this one off.

EC is a lot better than Monty in just about every category. But for some reason and maybe because its just HS basketball and funny things happen I do believe it will be close.
 
36-24 MC at half. Newman closes half with a run. Duysen appeared to roll ankle but was playing.

Ouch. I was worried about MC. They seem to be playing better than just about everyone. Hopefully Newman can make it a game in 2nd.
