That Oak Ridge loss is shocking indeed. A conniving thought is that Oak Ridge knows that they will not beat St. Mary's, and if they beat St. Francis there would be a good chance they would be upgraded to the Open Division. The loss does three things for them. 1) keeps them in D1; 2) prevents them from being considered for the Open Division; and 3) makes it significantly doubtful that the CIF will invite McClatchy to an "At-Large" invite. The McClatchy game emotionally wore out Oak Ridge. Remember last year, Oak Ridge was in this same situation, (a semi-final loser) in sections. But they received the #2 seed over other "section winners" namely NCS winner Berkeley. Oak Ridge got a 1st round bye and home site advantage. Berkeley had to play a 1st round game and then play at Oak Ridge in round #2. I can see this happening again and play St. Francis in a rematch.

Saint Francis out played Oak Ridge and earned that win. Oak Ridge wanted to win just got beat. If there is a rematch I would expect adjustments and a better game. Don't rule Folsom out either they were very impressive in the first quarter last night. If McClatchy gets in no one wants to see them either.

McClatchy is the#7 seed they aren't getting an at large bid....IF there is an at large bid it will go to the highest seed NOT in norcals.

SJS does not back fill. The only section that does is NorCal and it is a rule that should be taken out of the equation. If you can't win two section games, you shouldn't be playing in NorCals. No matter how strong the bracket is.

*An Open Division is exempt from this thinking IMO

Not putting McClatchy down but I'm not surprise they lost to Oak Ridge and I was not surprised Oak Ridge lost to Saint Francis. You guys really do rate teams based on yesterday. McClatchy without GG was not even remotely close to the team they had last year. Even if they had been seeded correctly they were not an open team and nor is Oak Ridge. Next year Oak Ridge and McClatchy will be that team but it was not this year. Oak Ridge losing last night was the best thing that could have happened to them because now they can make a realistic run in D1 and that should have also been true for McClatchy because Folsom did not deserve to be in the final four. Folsom should have been the ousted second round team.

Azanna--I agree completely what you say above. I just hope other section winners get a fair seeding in the NorCal. I don't think they deserve a #2 seeding this time like they did last year, despite their gaudy MaxPreps ranking. If Oak Ridge is seeded at #2 again behind St. Francis, then a rematch is in the works. Go St. Francis! My daughter will do some summer camps at St. Francis this summer.

So every team that loses in the semifinals didn't want to win because they feared going in the Open?

How about some credit for the teams that won?

This is what you get with the current Open system. Maybe teams want to get into the Open, and maybe they don't. Either way, there's a perception problem for teams that lose and go to their Division instead of the Open. Make it a Tournament of Champions after the regualr division playoffs, and everyone wants to get in.
