The WCAL This Year

One of the more impressive feats this week was Central Catholic‘s victory over Bellarmine.

CC has an enrollment of 377. Bellarmine has an equivalent male/female enrollment of 3,294

Perhaps they should be awarded the Thermopylae Cup for the victory with such lopsided odds.
Respectfully posted.

Met the Coach, many of the players and their parents a couple years back at a game at the O-O behind DLS. Very good program, everybody was dialed in and focused on the job at hand. After the game players thanked us and many random parents for the invite/opportunity to play in that game; that they couldn't wait for the coming year's match up at their school.
A high school class act.

Someone mentioned CC’s roster was no more than 25 players against a roster of 50+? Yet the Bells seemed to be gassed in the second half. The Raiders made their halftime adjustments. CC’s D shut out the Bells in the 2nd half as CC’s HC notched his 250th win Impressive.

Since there will be no full 2020 WCAL football schedule or title due to the covid pandemic, the meaningful ballgames will be in fall 2021. That's really where the rubber meets the road. So what we have right now is a sort of full preview (2021 seniors excepted) of what's coming in five months. To be frank, it sure looks like VC and Serra all over again. Both teams are loaded with young talent. Serra's frosh and JV's did defeat their VC counterparts last weekend but both games were relatively close. St. Francis might be a factor in the fall as well. The underclass Lancers have talent. We are getting a good look at what's coming in the very near future. It's worth noting that since Walsh (2001) and Machado (2002) came into the WCAL, their teams have won or shared the football championship more than half the time in the last two decades of competition. That long, seemingly endless, WCAL domination by Bellarmine and St. Francis dating back to the Calvin Coolidge Administration and Fatty Arbuckle featurettes has clearly ended.

VC had 17 players on their JV team and they are not very good, Serra had close to 40 and one of the best players is a Frosh. VC had 15 players on their Frosh team, Serra had 77. No contest in the game even though the score was 22 to 0. Since SHC and Riordan do not have a JV team Serra JV will play VC and St Francis twice,

Just wondering, but is it possible VC has had some virus (or other) issues within its football program, thus limiting roster sizes on its lower teams? Those numbers seem exceedingly low for VC.

Or potential football players chose to play another sport since there are multiple seasons in play. This was the case for SHC and Riordan and most likely Mitty for this COVID-shortened season.

youre joking. its clear as glass. the vc/serra broadcast was unwatchable. the camera lens looked liked no one has cleaned it in years.
The Varsity stream was okay but the Frosh game was re-coded later. The on-demand video is much better.
