WCAL 2024 Football Schedules

I would classify it as paid advertisement. About 3miles down the street with a QB that has multiple D1 offers and 10x the stats 😆 🤣 😂..
Yes this is bananas that fans would put Hummel over Mitchell. The knock by the "talent evaluators" will always be Mitchell is too small. Bryce Young did pretty well for himself at pretty much the same measurements.

You have a QB that is Touting D3 offers i believe 1-2 and you have a QB with multiple D1 offers. Fans are Basically what it sounds like fans of Si QB ( please vote for me ). If there was any accomplishment worth noting about SI QB please share with the forum .

I'll trade TE Mana'omia Tito for a legit "Power 4 Conference" Defensive Tackle Manoah Faupusa. SI desperately needed a run stopper. It's just to bad he'll have to sit out until after the Serra game.
Ummm, pretty sure if you stick John Mills at Nose Tackle that will solve all your run stopping problems.

I see a 3 way battle for 2nd if neither of those teams are able to de-throne Serra.

I think SI might have a chance if their blue chip DT Manoah Faupusa is able to play in that game.

1. Serra
2. St. Ignatius
2. St. Francis
2. Riordan
5. Valley Christian
6. Mitty
7. Bellarmine
8. Sacred Heart
San Jose Mercury's Predicted Order of Finish:
  1. Riordan
  2. Serra
  3. St. Francis
  4. Valley Christian
  5. St. Ignatius
  6. Bellarmine
  7. Sacred Heart Cathedral
  8. Mitty

Seems reasonable, but surprised a little at VC over SI.

The Chronicle released their top 25 with:

1. Riordan
2. Serra
3. St. Ignatius
4. St. Francis
5. Valley Christian
6. Mitty
(Bellarmine and Sacred Heart Cathedral not ranked)

Then again, they have Wilcox at #18 for the Bay Area despite the fact they're only returning something like 6 starters overall.

Little bit of a crapshoot at this point.

A thought just occurred: Too many of us (including moi) are forgetting about St. Francis. That's a mistake. The Lancers will be run-heavy and very tough defensively and on special teams. They usually aren't sexy or high-scoring. Their signature is the unheralded small stuff like preparation, attention to detail and adjustments. They have enough talent on both sides of the ball to contend for another WCAL title. They don't usually beat themselves. Sleeping on them is a fool's errand.

I don't think anyone is taking St. Francis lightly with the returning players they have at the skill and defensive positions.
Agreed. Lancers look like the team that be run heavy/time consuming on offense and be very stout on defense. Overall will make the least amount of mistakes than their league counterparts. They sure sound boring but sometimes boring is what wins those games.

Pre-season predictions typically are based on returning talent, coaching expertise, transfers and history. But that's all on paper (or phone screens). Actual games are where the rubber meets the road. They commence soon. Then we'll see. Predictions become last week's blather. As they should.

That recipe has worked very well for the Calcagno family for years

Again, good to see the predicted top 3 teams are the ones that have the most challenging non-league schedules to prep them for WCAL.
  1. Riordan - @ Mack; @St. Bonaventure; @ Pitt
  2. Serra - @ Folsom; @ DLS; St. John Bosco
  3. St. Francis @ Helix, Mack, @ DLS

Interesting stat from the San Mateo Daily Journal:

Through 2016 and ’17, as a precursor to Serra’s first two state bowl game appearances, Walsh’s squad posted a cumulative 1-5 record in non-league play. The Padres went on to celebrate WCAL championships in each of those seasons.

Who did Serra varsity scrimmage this weekend? Looks like frosh with Cal High and JV against Sequoia? Did anyone get insights on Salinas v Riordan scrimmage?
