Of all the leagues in the valley running from the Oregon border to Merced, there were almost 45 teams in 2016 that went 8-4 for the season.....All the leagues had at least two and three teams that were red hot but fad away do to Grad. In the Valley.. I still think that the Delta league is the toughest as these teams beat up on each other...This year will be a tough one for Elk Grove as they open the 2017 season against Inderkum which is loaded with speed and skill players....The Thundering Herd took a big hit to grad....Maybe, the 2017 season will be a turn around year for Pleasant Grove who went 0-10, hard to believe that a school in a growth area would go that route...
At this time, it looks like Sheldon may be the team to beat,, but Grant is no body to fool with or is Jesuit....Monterey trail should step up this year...
THE DELTA LEAGUE
Sheldon
Monterey Trail
Grant
Elk Grover
Pleasant Grove
Jesuit
Franklin
Davis
Other preseason games are Jesuit at Granite Bay and Grant at Rocklin
BUT HOW ABOUT THE SIERRA FOOTHILL
Granite Bay
Folsom
Nevada Union
Rocklin
Woodcreek
De Oro
Oakridge
Only Woodcreek does not figure in the coming battles, but we keeping thinking that they may be coming.
Del Oro opens with Cathedral of San Diego
Jesuit visits Granite Bay
Vista Del Lago travels to Oakridge
Folsom faces Coeurd'Alene
But down the road, comes the big game when Folsom travels to Oakdale and a showdown at the Corral...
Who will take the league championship???Folsom, Oakridge or Del Oro???? Folsom seems to have DO's and OR's number, but this may be the year, that things are different...
Any thoughts....Ideas???

With the addition of Grant, the Sierra Foothill League is the best. Without Grant, you could also argue it was the best.

Best league in NorCal IMHO

SFL (Super Football League) & the Delta!
One of the guys was wondering about Monterey Trail which went 5-6 for the season...Well the Mustangs will field about 40 for the 2017 season, size wise, not a big team, but they should be quick and maybe fast..It looks like a mix of running and passing, they have a QB named Zach Larrier at six feet and 175. He is supported by Viktor Oliver at 6 feet 180,Jemel Budgett and Alx Amaro, both 160 pound running backs....Line wise no size, but quick and a soph at 6-2 248 which may anchor the line
They have a tough scrimmage lined up for Aug. 19th at 10 A.m.against Manteca and then go into battle on 8-25 against 5-6 Wilcox of Santa Clara in a away game at 7:30 P.M.
But then it becomes battle testing time..
9-8.....Vista Del Lago Home 7:30....at 8-4
9-15...Del Oro Away 7:30....at 13-3

Outside D1, pound for pound, the Valley Oak League (VOL), is right up there with teams like Oakdale, Manteca, and Central Catholic leading their league. Many of these teams take on D1 competition in their non-league games. Central Catholic plays St. Mary's-Stockton week 2 (along with going outside their section, taking on Riordan and Marin Catholic in weeks 0 & 1, not necessarily D1 competition, but still competition). Manteca takes on Valley Christian in week 0. Oakdale vs Folsom in week 2 @ Oakdale. Other VOL teams play D1 teams, as well, that may not be as strong in D1. But, this league is not afraid to seek competition. Maybe they aren't as strong as the aforementioned D1 leagues, but it might be a challenge to question their toughness.

IMHO, the SFL is the stronger & toughest league in SJS. Their non-league schedule is also stronger/tougher than Delta. This year, I even give the SFL a slight edge over the WCAL league for strongest & toughest league in NorCal.

Totally agree that the SFL is the toughest league in the SJS as well as all of Nor-Cal. Also agree that the VOL is not to be played with. The top three teams such as those you mentioned Central Catholic, Oakdale and Manteca can play with the best of them on any given day. Big up's to the Oakdale coaches for challenging their program against a power like Folsom. When the Delta league coaches start challenging their programs with better OOC teams we can say the same for them. I have no doubt that coach Heff @ Elk Grove will challenge his team with OOC competition every year moving forward. I wouldn't be surprised if he scheduled a Fresno/Bakersfield power in the near future to get things started for ole Elk Grove. Would love to see him test his team against a Drillers or Golden Eagles program. Don't sleep on Sanger.
