Week 5 Scores

poor line play has been a huge issue at marine catholic for years, charles williams and mobile qb’s like cook covered it up and let them get away with it. at this point it’s pretty clear it’s a coaching issue

moayed has had a great run but the attention to detail needs to get cleaned up immediately. if I was marine catholic after this season I would ask paul cronin to name his price and whatever he said I would pay it. he would clean it up and have marine in the open division his first year.
It's Marin, not Marine.

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

Let me clarify something on the front in,…you are “Not like Me”. So the Bro verbiage, you can put a hold on😎
Do you have the numerical data of on campus vs off campuses that correlates to championships and to support your opinion, or are we making absolute statements? Or are you just trying to be an agent of argument,… which I suggest may be your agenda. Either way that is not debate,..
here is data.

the next championship riordan wins this decade will be the first.

because they have zero.

in the famous words of that grizzlies coach. take that for data.

Week 5 Scores

I disagree…sorta. CN is that good. I’ve played/watched a ton of football and these guys are real. My grandson is a sophomore/starting DT at BOD and he held his own out there, but he said these are some of the best guys he’s played against…ever. He’s been playing high level football for 10 years.

These CN young men have been playing together for years. I remember several of them from the Redwood PAL Golden Bears youth football league. They’ve been beating the brakes off of teams for a while.

They remind me of the mid-80s Skyline High School squads that had Brian Johnson (Stanford/Detroit Tigers) at QB. Simple plays but great execution, big active line, speed at the skilled positions, and a few D1 guys. The OAL didn’t go to the NCS playoffs back then at the end of the season. But their ‘84 squad beat DLS and went undefeated.

They are def an Open team in NCS, unfortunately. This is where I agree with you. I don’t think they can compete vs a DLS, SRV, Pitt (or a SM Rams, Serra, St. Francis, etc.).

I disagree with the rest of your list. They are going to beat MC this year. They should beat Windsor. But Las Lomas (that was random) and Acalanes? No match.

I have a ton of family and friends at EC. A game against them or Cal would be interesting.
newman cannot beat anyone that outclasses them in the speed department. almost every team i mentioned qualifies in this category. the other teams i mentioned are teams that can/would/will beat new man at there own game. i do not mean this as disrespect towards how good they are…..for a d 4 team.

what i will disrespect them for however is allowing that flagrantly racist coach to continue on in employment after he got exposed. and not only that, they even went so far as to punish the people who blowed the whistle. shows that they are completely devoid of morals and class as a program and as an institution.

ncs needs to do the right thing step in and either ban new man from playoff competition until they clean it up or just make them play de la salle in the first round every year with no loser plays on so they can just be cannon fodder. programs like that should not have the opporunity to represent ncs at the state level.

but then again this is the bay area. schools and coaches can treat people as racist as they want with zero consequences for anyone other than the people who blow the whistle. i could name ten other schools that do the same thing.

Week 5 Scores

Yeah, I think they opened up some eyes. Like @northbaybbguru said... Sanchez has never had a great QB. Cronin had D1 Qb's for about a decade in a row. It has been the tougher position to fill at newman but Sanchez has one now. Newman's biggest weakness is there overall roster size. These true Open and D1 schools go 50-55+ and the backup kids are very good. Newman is thin just a function of there school size. They probably have 35-37 on roster with lots of 2 way guys. Newman's best teams always could play with St Mary's of Stockton. In fact I recall newman great Jordan Brookshire getting stopped on a goal line stand by rams at Newman to end the game. I have no doubt Newman can play with St Mary's. DLS and Pitt would be a very tall order but St Mary's nearly knocked off DLS..... Lots of season left and we still need to get by a few good schools. Pleasant Valley of Chico will be good. I'm not looking past them but overall outlook is bright.
I could be shorting them. Again, they are very good. Maybe they can hang with the top NorCal programs this season. Spoke with a few of their parents and backers. They all said “this is their year.”

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

The closure of Mercy-SF gave Riordan the go-ahead to become a coed outfit. The move has gone a very long way toward saving the school, along with the boarding component which generates big excess dollars that can be used for the school's operations. The plan is working.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Salesian is the next school to board students. And if I am not mistaken my alum SHC has one brother left, might be 2, but pretty sure it is one in the brothers house. Salesians house is in Berkeley.

However back in the late 80’s and early 90’s football wasn’t much of an attraction as guys had to trek out to the Polo fields daily for practice. And although we now have a 60 yard practice field, I don’t ever foresee the school being able to attract a ton of talent versus schools like Riordan, SI, and Serra, where athletes literally get to hit the field the minute school is over.

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

For your consideration (and taking into account the differences in SOS throughout), here are the composite (varsity, JV and frosh) standings for the eight WCAL entrants as they prepare for the start of league play this week (according to WCAL website):

1. Mitty, 8-1
2 SHC (no frosh team), 5-1
3. Valley Christian, 6-2
4. St. Fancis, 6-3
5. St. Ignatius, 4-5
6. Riordan (no frosh team), 2-3
8 (tie) Serra/Bellarmine 2-8

how about we pump the breaks on new man until they beat someone with a pile. they won’t be put in the open because there are many teams that are more gooder then they are.

in no particular order

de la salle

pittsburg

el cerrito (guarantee they would beat new man head to head)

san ramon valley

marine catholic (will beat them head to head mark my words)

california

acalanes

las lomas (don’t believe me watch there qb he’s the next superstar bay area qb)

windsor (completely unstoppable run game)

and that’s just off the top of my head. teams like liberty and clayton valley might be better too though i would also hold off on them until they beat a real team. gotta to have a consistent “standard”

WCAL 2024-25 SEASON

yes they are i was just pointing out that mack clymonds beat them because that guy said they were 0-3.

speaking about o dowd - hopefully one day these schools learn that hiring a “coach” with no resume simply because they played in the nfl is a guaranteed way to ensure that your program will absolutely suck for at least 5 years. it never works. looking at you too dublin saint marys berkeley etc cetera.
Successful Head Coaches are almost always on campus teachers. They actually become part of the campus community and they know how to coach (teach!). Which are sadly becoming more rare in the Bay Area but still relatively coming in Sac/Valley.
