Sac-Joaquin Round 3 Section 6-7 Semifinal Matchup

We have more powerful small school teams embracing the opportunity of a Section Crown! let's take a peek of what we will see tonight!! We have another rematch of League play from the Southern League.
Some of the teams look mismatched, but when the lights turn on anything is possible.

D6- Sutter vs. Hughson- The battle of the Huskie will be biting down to become the Alpha. Sutter had a very close call last week 14-7 over Liberty Ranch. While Hughson blew up Colfax's season 54-13. Sutter has home field advantage, but Calpreps has Hughson winning a close one. I will take the defending State Champions on the road. 33-26

Sonora vs. Bradshaw Christian- The Pride crushed Union Mine and blew by them 41-7. Sonora spoiled Summervilles hopes 45-14. The Wildcats only loss was to Oakdale 27-20. Sonora averages 43 points and the Pride gives up only 7.7 ppg. The Pride will have to stay warm as it will be chilly on the mountain. The Wildcats will be a lot to handle and look to meet Hughson next week for the Crown!

D7- Ripon Christian vs. Orestimba- The Warriors played earlier at Ripon and where jousted by the Knights 42-12. The Warriors defeated Le Grand 49-14. The Knights look headed to a show down with Woodland Christian.
Ripon Christian's only loss was to Central Valley Christian (34 calpreps) of Visalia on the road 63-41.
I will go with the Knights in a closer rematch with the Warriors.
RC 44-20

Woodland Christian vs. Stone Ridge Christian- The Cardinals have cruised through Sacramento Metro league play and have taken down Bradshaw Chr. in week 1. They pecked out the Delta Saints 49-8. The Knights from Merced had no problems at home taking out Valley Christian 70-14. The Knights will travel the gauntlet to the Cardinal nest in Yolo County. This might get messy.
WC 36-14

JV Tournament Needing a Team for the Island Classic (December 28-30)

Coaches,

I just had a team drop out of our JV Tournament called the Island Classic scheduled for December 28-30. All games will be played in the main gym at Alameda High School. You will get 3 games for this tournament. I will work with a team on the tournament entry fee.

We prefer a team to come in a play all 3 days but if you can only 1 or 2 days, at this point we may have to accept that if that is all you can do.

If you are interested in this last spot, please contact me right away! You can reach me on my cell at (510) 610-4400 or via email at: coachshawnhipol@gmail.com

Sac-Joaquin Round 3 Section D3-D4 Semifinal Matchups

We can take a look at the D3 through D7 playoffs and predictions of who will advance. 1st let's breakdown the D3/D4/D5 games.
A few home teams might find themselves in a shootout against a powerful visitor who has tasted the Crown!
Tough football and being prepared for big games have brought these matchups to light on Friday night.
We have some newcomers and some veteran teams, here is a look at the games.

D3- Grant vs. Oakdale - The Mustangs have the resume to play anyone at their level, question pending is how long SJS keeps Grant in D3. Oakdale will be a tough out for the Pacers. I feel an upset due to the beat down of Linden 82-7. I know Oakdale will be looking to show some respect. I have Oakdale 44-39. This is a matchup similar to Los Gatos and Grant 22-21. Grant will be tested for discipline on both sides of the ball, can they limit penalties?

Woodcreek vs. Vanden- The Vikings have played a tough schedule, coming close to defeating Campo/Vista Del Lago. The Timberwolves only loss was to Inderkum by 5 at home. This is a very close matchup. Vanden averages just under 35 points per game, while Woodcreek at 41. Woodcreek at home and the drive might tire the Vikings.
Woodcreek 41-35.

D4- Escalon vs. West Park- The Panthers have to visit Southern San Joaquin County and the Fog of Escalon. The Cougars are State Champs and will be home to showcase this powerful squad. West Park can score, yet the struggled against Wood of Vacaville 47-35. If the Panthers want to stay close, they will have to have the best defensive performance of their existence. Escalon look at the schedule they play, only loss to Cal in San Ramon. The Cougars will be dominant and win. Sorry Hillmen, Placer would have been bowed up as well. 44-16

Vista Del Lago vs. Patterson- The Tigers showed they may have a chance in this one versus the Eagles. Blowing by Kimball 40-7. Vista Del Lago only loss was a close matchup vs. Manteca. They won a close match versus Vanden. Patterson better make some stops and turn those into points or Vista Del Lago will tame the Tiger.
vista Del Lago at home in a close game 28-26.

D5- Twelve Bridges vs. Los Banos- The Raging Rhinos who have a very cool name can make claims of the best smalltown Sierra Foothill team. Los Banos has an uphill battle if you will, they will face a Rhino team who has played a tougher league (Pioneer Valley) schedule. The Tigers will have to find some turnovers that they cultivate into points. The downed Center 30-7, Twelve Bridges defeated Center 35-7.
Twelve Bridges at home 37-30

Casa Roble vs. Hilmar- What a turnaround season for HIlmar, they started 1-2 and looked like a tough season. The beat Hughson at home and have played much better. The Rams have been on a mission to get to the Championship game vs. 12 Bridges. Casa Roble will be tested and should expect a very close game. The Rams only loss was to D1 Del Oro 31-13.
My gut says upset, but Casa Roble is tough. Casa Roble 22-18

Placer HS Gym…. Hoosiers-like atmosphere!!

What a place! I have wanted to get here for years, glad I made it.

I am at Placer for their foundation games.

Just watched the girls smack Yuba City down, 56-32.

But, for me it’s all about this amazing place…

Built in the 30’s, bleachers are raised above floor level sorta like Riordan. Eyes are rim high when sitting front row.

Incredible Hall Of Fame under the home bleachers, ya walk through it to get to the snack bar. Just might be the best hall-of-fame display I’ve ever seen at a high school! Many colleges would be proud of a display this well done.

Reminiscent of the old gyms in the movie Hoosiers!

Thoughts from #TheR,…

Bells' troubles persist

It seems almost inconceivable that Bellarmine's storied football program could sink to such depths. But the 2023 numbers don't lie. With one more WCAL date (vs. St. Francis) on the schedule this week, the Bells' three levels (varsity, JV and frosh) are a combined 6-17-1 (3-12 in the WCAL). All three teams are currently sitting in next to last place in league play. In the memories of those who have followed Bellarmine since the mid-1950s, this performance is both shocking and worrisome at a venerable Jesuit institution with nearly 1,700 students, all male. Can this state of affairs be turned around? Sure. But it will take focus, work and a firm commitment from the school's governing body and administration. Without much doubt, the legion of Bellarmine alumni will have something to say as well.

Sac-Joaquin Round 3 Section D1-D2 Semifinal Matchups

No major upsets last week in D1-D2 some close contests no doubt and now onto the Semifinals.
This week's playoff games showcase a few rematches from earlier in the year. A chance for a few unexpected squads to move-up.

D1- Folsom vs. Inderkum- The Tigers blasted Monterey Trail 50-21 and now have a chance to push the Bulldogs into the yard. Folsom still the favorite. 35-33
