SJS Playoff Notes

The section puts together a notes package each week during the playoffs. Here are a couple that caught my attention:

Four teams (Bradshaw Christian, Hughson, Rodriguez and Twelve Bridges) enter the playoffs with perfect records. In 2023, that number was two; in 2015 it was a record 10 teams who entered the playoffs at 10-0. Historically speaking, at least one of those three teams will win a championship, as there has been at least one unbeaten team win a Section championship for 23 of the last 29 years.

We have three teams in the playoffs for the very first time. And a very large welcome to perhaps the top story of this first round: Armijo is here for the first time. The Fairfield school opened in 1891 and has never made the football playoffs, even though Super Bowl champion and Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Famer George Martin played there in the late 1970s. Also in the playoffs for the first time: Elite Public Schools and Wheatland.

Take a bow, Trans-Valley League! All seven of your teams advanced to the playoffs. Three leagues qualified six teams apiece to the postseason: The CVC, FVL and the VOL. And three leagues each qualified five teams - The SAL, SFL and TCAL.

Nor Cal Tip Off Classic (November 30 at Dublin HS) - ELEVEN players committed to Division I schools

12. Soquel (7-2)

Sam Whelan threw for three touchdowns and Tyreis Lundy rushed for 213 yards and a score as part of Soquel’s most impressive win of the season in a 34-14 win over Salinas. The Knights, which have won seven in a row, will host Aptos as they try to clinch an outright league title.

19. Valley Christian-San Jose (5-4)

The Warriors got the scoring going with a touchdown pass from Rome Leota-Pritchard to Lasavion Carr, but couldn’t keep up with St. Francis in a 35-17 loss. It was a season high in points allowed by the Warriors. They end the regular season this week against Serra.

20. Wilcox (7-2)

The Chargers have won five in a row after knocking off Los Gatos 19-14. Brayden Rosa rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns as part of a team wide 256 rushing yard effort. Santino Barragan had a team high 11 tackles. Wilcox will host Menlo-Atherton this week.

Big News. Coach Clink at Chico State Retiring

Just got the notice. Looks like they hired somebody outside for the athletic director position which was criminal to me given how much Coach Clink gave to that school. I know he wanted that role.

But deep down I think it was more family related as he wants to spend more time watching his son compete in wresting at Cal Poly SLO. Coach Clink is a friend to many of us on here and I wish him the best. He built one of the best D2 programs in the country. I doubt he's done for good. I could see him popping up as an asst D1 down the road but sounds like he's resetting for now.

MC 13 vs CN 3 final

Where to start?

I thought MC was just tougher than CN today.

MC was continually pushing the CN receivers off their lines and the MC def line DOMINATED the CN offensive line.

We are now at 1 win in the last 19 yrs for CN vs MC and im getting some serious big brother/little brother vibes in the rivalry.
I truly believe CN has more talent this year. This is MCs worst team in 4 yrs and CNs best AND yet MC controlled the game, controlled the line of scrimmage and it never felt like CN was going to win.

Kudos to MC for a great win...

***now comes the question where does the NCS place (for playoffs) a D6 school (in CN) who came in 2nd place in league who's best win is a 1 pt OT win vs a (7-2)Windsor.
