Has Lynbrook surrendered?

The 2025 Peninsula Athletic League Lake Division (C-level) schedule does not include Lynbrook. In 2024, they went 0-7 in league play, 0-8 overall. They were outscored 412-6 and were grossly over-matched even in an extremely weak league. It appears the San Jose school has tossed in the towel for varsity football, at least for the upcoming season. On a brighter note, Lynbrook is awash in high=achieving National Merit Scholarship winners.

Second Place Trophies

This society has become so soft as Charmin they reward second place. They reward well we won this and that. When it comes to boys basketball and the unfortunate CIF ruling so we get to watch 200-300 ranked teams play in state titles, that is exactly why participation trophies stand.

Participation is great. One year I was asked by our JV head coach hey I am busy can you coach the DLS summer league tournament. I said sure I can. DLS put us in this small locker room near the football field, hell it felt more like a damn bathroom to he honest.

As they walked us back there was a garbage can full of hardware. They packed second place in a Jesuit summer tourney and back in those days there was no love lost between DLS and Jesuit. They did not like each other at all. Unlike today every one is all buddy buddy.

Point is this. When it comes to boys basketball in the state of California either win and hang banners or STFU. As a SH grad we play SI for one of the longest standing trophies hands down that takes many people to carry. JD Vance couldn’t hold it and let it collapse.

And due to that the WCAL was a win or go home league. SH could have been 6-2 and SI 1-7, if they won the Bruce that is all that matters. But if you smack your lips and have loaded rosters for Christs sakes and can’t get over the hump, well everything else previous doesn’t mean jack shit.

WIN OR STFU. That’s the bottom line. And if your kid didn’t win, OH WELL. Cause many WCAL kids have. PERIOD. Will be back in November to read all the excuses again.

And if it was up to me someone should choke the CIF and remove the open and get back to enrollment basketball. I personally am not going to watch a full team without any D1 or future NBA players play a state title game. It’s pathetic, it’s an injustice to basketball, and with NIL, maybe even the guys who can ask for paychecks may not even make it to Sacramento and let the rest of their team head up there. The open is killing California High school basketball.

Katley and Tofi

I was just talking to a very close friend in Southern California. And told her how both Division 3 state title runner ups and champs played with LeBron being her and I are going to the game in LA tomorrow. And I had to laugh for a minute. Who at THE R played with 40 year old Lebron. Now don’t get it twisted I know a fella who played on the same AAU team from Riordan with Jason Kidd. But did anyone else play with such dynamic talent. Two state D3 title winners played with LeBron period. And Leon period. And Kendrick period. So take your history, shove it, and for all of us STFU. Your kid and anyone after has never come close to such per pre Prolific era. SO AGAIN STFU.

Sincerely, THE HIGH SCHOOL WIZARD.

Joey Curtin I applaud you for doing what you do. We all know coaching kids at such a capacity is not easy. But you stepped up and have tried hard as hell. But do yourself a favor. Get rid of the poisonous clowns sitting behind you. You don’t need. Riordan has always been a very reputable school on the level of basketball and you literally have a village idiot who literally thinks he knows more than even you. Eliminate the BS and continue to teach the kids. I will always respect that. Get back at it. And don’t stop. But eliminate the village idiots asap.

Valkyries' draft today

Sadly, they're not going to get much at No. 5, but by the end of the draft, the roster for the summer will be pretty much complete.and m the

So far, unfortunately, it does not look good. A lot of players stayed in school for NIL money and so the draft -- which is usually only three or four players deep -- is one (or two) players deep this time.

But next year, the Valkyries will have no bad contracts and the ability to sign the horde of established stars who will become free agents in anticipation of the new CBA.

MD just upped the ante with 10 year 7 figure media deal

High schools in California cannot negotiate name, image and likeness deals on behalf of athletes; students must sign those on their own, and they have begun to do so in states that allow it.

Gurganious said that the agreement is not an NIL deal. “No funds will be directly allocated to student-athletes by Playfly, nor will student-athletes be required to participate in brand promotions on behalf of the school,” he said. “Instead, this initiative aims to foster meaningful connections between brands and the broader athletic community at Mater Dei High School.”

Still, the deal with Playfly is yet another way that opportunities to monetize sports — not just in college but also in high school — are booming in the world of NIL. With the Playfly deal, brand partnerships with Mater Dei could make their way to students.

“We don’t get involved in negotiation or creating opportunities specifically for any individual,” Mater Dei director of athletic development Khaled Holmes said. “Now, as we create these opportunities as a school or as an athletic department or as a program specifically, I wouldn’t be surprised at some point if there were parallel opportunities for our athletes.”

Houston vs Florida

Only local tie is Todd Golden being a former Gael and Don. He hit the lottery in coaching!

And how about that defensive masterclass Kelvin and the Cougs displayed??!!!

10 minutes, 1 field goal.... to all the parents, teach your kid how to defend and not be so worried about shooting 48 3s.

Rebounding, Defense, and Free Throws - Proctor missed his, Roberts and Cryer hit theirs
