Archbishop Riordan CCS Open Champions!

Add Ryder Bush to Riordan's depth. Any coach would love to have this problem of going 11 deep. December gave Curtin the opportunity to evaluate this team and the long layoff let the team see film of their play. January now has the team really hitting their stride. Curtin is taking a page out of Rich Forslund's book that no one is a prima donna and he is not hesitating to pull any player if they lapse on defense or offense. This is great motivation for the entire team to be play all out on both ends of the floor and be ready to step in when called...An observation on Sensley - no doubt he is a talent, but really surprised of his lack of concept in playing team defense, not forcing things and shot clock awareness that was evident in non-league. This is still a work in progress, but he appears buying into this. If not, he will not even sniff the floor in Randy Bennett's system next year. Next Monday's game against Salesian at the MLK @ DLS and game @ Mitty the following night will be a very good barometer of Riordan's progress. Salesian is really playing well and its #1 NorCal ranking is well earned based on their play.
@ArmchairGOAT,
I am personally feeling like a “Sophie’s Choice” moments on the Salesian vs. Riordan & the Mitty vs Riordan match ups & “if you know me,….you know why”?

But I take s different approach to your statement of Coach Curtin taking the Coach Forslund approach in PLAYING TIME To Prima Donas. The difference IS Coach Forslund Only had 2 Prima Donas (Only 2 D1 players) thus never sat them after lack of effort or TO. Meaning Coach Curtin has that luxury to Do So, thus making the current program MORE beneficial for that players understanding to the next level expectations.

Being intimately involved IN the next level program you mention, I can Personally State the Coach Curtin approach will/Is more beneficial to a further D1 player.

Thus resounds my Mantra of why D1 players are flocking to Riordan & Coach Curtin because HE IS the best IN Riordan’s Folklore in preparation to the next stage of a Student/Athletics goals.

I also believe times are different, but the current humility of Coach Curtin is Key to Riordan success,…it IS the #NewAttitude @TheR

Damn since 1990??!!!
The 2002 beat SH both league games. But SH played hard as hell and Odiyo and Jason Hill were all up in peoples faces and hacking like hell and won the league. Then won again in the CCS title game and the aggressiveness wore Riordan out. But Riordan knew if they got SH in the NorCal Title game it would be neutral refs, and that’s exactly what happened. Coach Perez gave it his all. It was probably the best 5 games between two WCAL schools in one season and ARHS Stats would have to confirm if two teams faced each other five times. Would had to have been pre season tourney, twice in league, playoffs then CCS.

At the “End of The Day”…i guess we have equate 1990 Riordan to 2024 @TheR,…it appears all of the in btwn are sub par?

A generation and half Is a longtime 🏀👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

5x in a season has to be the most ever. My 91' Riordan team played SHC 4x that season. We beat them in the Crusader Classic championship. Split in league play. Then SHC beat us in the semi's of the WCAL playoffs by 1 point on a John Gumina tip in at the buzzer. Which, as you may know, ended the 7 consecutive WCAL titles

Yes, it had been done before.

1984 Riordan played Saint Ignatius 5 times. Twice in League, Twice in the League Playoffs (Riordan forced SI to play a point game for the Championship.), and then in the CCS Championship Game. Saint Ignatius won 4 of 5 games.

1969 Riordan played Bellarmine 5 times. Twice in League and Three times in the League Playoffs.
Riordan and Bellarmine were the Round Robin Co-Champions, so the playoffs consisted of Riordan and Bellarmine playing 3 games back to back. Riordan won the first league game in overtime by 1 point, Bellarmine won the next league game by 3 points. Bellarmine won the first playoff game by 9 points, Riordan won the second playoff game by 10 points. The first two playoff games were played at University of San Francisco, the third game was played at San Jose Civic , where Riordan won by 17. Riordan won 3 of 5.

1989 Riordan played Saint Francis 5 times. First game was the Championship Game of the 30th Crusader Classic, Saint Francis won by 2 points. Riordan won the first league game by 12 points, but lost the second league game at Saint Francis by 5 points. Riordan beat Saint Francis by 4 points in the WCAL Playoff Championship game at Santa Clara University. Riordan beat Saint Francis by 22 points in the CCS Division 1 Championship Game by 22 points. Riordan won 3 of 5 games.
