For the second time this season, Bellarmine beat St. Francis 1-0.

Mason Eng had the lone RBI to drive in Connor Henriques.

Wes Harper and Josh Mollerus combined on a three hitter.

Ryan Jeffries threw six innings of four hit ball to take the loss.

And it should be noted that the Bellarmine head coach specifically credited extra rest for his pitching staff with the win. He stated that having SI forfeit this week allowed the Bells to alter their rotation, allowing one of their best pitchers to take the mound vs. St. Francis. We'll say it again: SI's four-forfeitt decision was a very big deal that changed the complexion of the WCAL season.

WCAL is unbelievable in baseball this year. VC, Bellarmine, Mitty, St Francis, Serra...... Is it best league in state if not country?

As of tonight, the top five teams are now separated by two games. The three SF schools rest at the bottom of the league.

With Serra’s win over Bellarmine yesterday, the Padres have swept both VC and Bellarmine in the regular season.

Serra is real interesting. They have those four wins (which are outstanding), but also have lost to Riordan and Petaluma.

WCAL is always super competitive but the level of play seems to be higher than recent years.

Serra 4 SHC 0. Irish are protesting. Apparently, the umps gave a Serra runner one too many bases on a throwing error.

St. Francis beat Valley Christian 2-1.
Mitty beat Bellarmine in 8 innings, 4-3.

Riordan beat SI 6-3.

There is a clear favorite. It is VC. They have the most talent on paper. It is theirs to take. BUT there are other really good teams too with maybe not AS much talent as VC, but enough to win every game they play. That is what makes baseball so cool. That is what makes the WCAL so cool. Very exciting couple weeks ahead. Games start 0-0 and the team that plays the hardest and with the most passion can win every time. I am just disappointed in the behavior of some teams in the dugout and in the stands. Inappropriate stuff all over the place. In the stands too. Really bad. Some coaches need to demand more of their talented players. I know they used to.

For whatever reason, the best team on paper (arguable) seems to be in some sort of decline over the last several weeks. Two losses to Serra, one to St. Francis and, today, a harrowing, extra-inning, one-run escape vs. SHC. The WCAL is indeed a horsehide nightmare.

$#!T Everybody beats these guys but us... It was 7-6 in 9 innings after the Irish had a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the 7th. One strike away.

Is it true that the erudite I.C. could not attend that title tilt more than a century ago due to a horseless carriage malfunction on Market Street?
