Cardinal Newman has no trouble with Montgomery

Had a little hope Montgomery would give Cardinal Newman a local challenge, but CN won 64-27 on Tuesday.

Good win for Newman. They came ready to play and make a statement in league. Lot of folks expected Montgomery to challenge, and they were even ranked higher in a few computer polls. Newman showed they're still in a class by themselves in the North Bay. Solid contributions all around and great team victory. Good boost for a big weekend ahead against some strong teams in Bear Creek and La Jolla Country Day.

Anya vs Mya Blake will be AWESOME. That is a toss up game. Anya should be getting some D1 looks by now too I would be interested to hear more details on her recruitment.

Cardinal Newman is an open candidate for sure. They have a great shot to win D3 in NCS as they seem to always give Salesian fits.CN is very dangerous.

Yep...the NCS D3 winner will be in for sure and the runner-up will be in the mix also.

should be good games between CN, Salesian and St Joes....don't see anybody else in D3 even sniffing...

too bad the NCS schools didn't see the wisdom of an NCS OPEN division...D3 would be wide open for all the rest of the teams.

Agree. NCS gets duped into sending the most teams every year. Has any section ever sent MORE teams to the Open than NCS?

Good points! Clay, why didn't the board of regents adopt the open division for NCS again? Just seems like a no brainer...

The issue with the NCS Open is NorCal playoff berths for D3, D4 and D5 ...

Right now, all three divisions send four teams into NorCals, but if the Open is passed, and the eight Open teams all go, that leaves 13 for the rest of the section. Presumably three or four D1 and D2 teams go, leaving at best seven spots for D3, D4 and D5. That means the lower divisions lose five spots, and the D4 and D5 schools (who are the majority in NCS) feel they could wind up with two instead of four.

It's possible NorCals could allow more NCS teams ... 23 would be a good number because that would be all eight Open plus three from each division.
