St. Pats had a few impressive runs tonight. The VVAL is 0-3 so I am not sure how good St. Pat’s is but they are well coached and competitive.

Is a 9 beating a 8 really considered an upset?

Def a 8v9 is a tossup game. Hell sometimes 5v12 is as we know from NCAA.
Newman and Monty both handled biz rather easily in round 1. I don't see Monty having any issues with Tam and should cruise into the semi's riding a 10 game winning streak. Round 2 has some really good games especially 4v5 in Moreau v Alameda. I personally think Moreau advances and the winner of Monty v Moreau will end up taking D2.

The other side has what I call a dangerous game for Newman in what looks to be a miss seeded #10 St Pats. I watched them play a few times earlier in the year and Newman will likely not advance this one. St Pats has too much size for Newman and a much better SOS.

Is a 9 beating a 8 really considered an upset?

Yes, at least a minor upset in the sense that the 9 seed has to go on the road (typically unless they're a league champion) to get the win which isn't always easy, of course.
