Props are due to Paly. They lost a consensus star in Annika Shah just before the season started and have continued to win.

Carly Martin has really stepped up.

With literally everyone returning next year, including Annika, I'd bet right now they earn an Open ticket.

Palo Alto? Because they beat lynbrook, another public, at home? do you really think they would beat the last place WCAL team ? the Gap between public and private is too significant in CCS.

Certainly not this year. But next year, with Shah and everyone else back, yes.

Well I havent seen them play or shah but have they played any privates in last year or two with her? its just a different level.numbers against other publics. well.

PA lost to Presentation last year. Pres was 4-6 in WCAL play.

They also lost to pres again this year by the same margin. Pres is 0-3 so far this year in WCAL play.

With Shah they win that game easily this year. She is a special player.

To be sure, the privates will generally reign again next year. But I stand by the prediction.

Sure, but to paraphrase John Wooden, the best thing about sophomores is that they become juniors.

Palo Alto was the #1 seed in CCS Div I last year. That seems rather not far off from open. (Presentation, btw, was the #6 open seed). A year later, with everyone back, it is not at all a stretch to imagine them playing with the privates.

Interesting observations. They should try to stay in D1. If they get into the open, they'd be slaughtered by #1 or #2.

True true. But the same could be said about anyone unlucky enough to land the #8 or even #7 seed in CCS open.

There are two very separate and unequal girls' basketball setups in CCS: The publics and the private/parochials. We all understand how that's gone _ total domination by the latter. Thirty CIF titles for the CCS private/parochials, one for the publics (Burlingame 1988). However, the new equity-based state playoff system has opened the door for a CCS public to garner another CIF crown at some point, perhaps soon. If it turns out to be Paly, great. Good for them. We have our gnarled fingers crossed.:)
