Frankie Ferrari Leaving USF

@ Rmbr26

I had many sports officials - Referees in Football and hoops and Umpires tell me that Drew could have been a wonderful DII or DIII QB because of what he saw in the pockert or while rolling out. He could also hit as a LH two hole type hitter. Drew as a senior on the 2004-05 baseball team and the roster had some nice pieces. Basketball wise I personally would never have called Drew Fast/Quick, but I suppose - the eye test + results were obvious on defense. In football and baseball Drew had enough foot speed to succeed getting out of the batters box or avoiding a rush in the pocket.

I was always hoping he would head to St. Marys but perhaps dad Barry was associated with Moraga?

Shiller and Ferrari. No comparison. Shiller was an all-american kid with the ability to excell at THREE sports (at the high school level). Also an asset in the classroom.

He was playing at the cusp of when players were starting to specialize in a single sport. Fortunately for Burlingame, he played all sports.

Yes, same issue at USF that Mr. Ferrari experienced, but he had the credentials to transfer to Stanford where he was able (and comfortable) with the role player metality.

Mr. Ferrari was a fun player to watch in high school. Never a shot he didnt like. But he was more comfortable being the man, than being a part of the team.

He has a tremendous basketball IQ, but the lack of separation ability (which is more prominent at most DI schools) will hamper him. If your his height at DI, you got to be really fast. His forte at the 3 ball only comes from getting quality minutes, and coming off the bench to give another a blow, or last two minutes is no way to get in a rythum(sp).

Not sure how he did academically, but a nice DII, DIII school where he could excel (and get a diploma). No reason to look at these programs as a disapointment.

So here is a brief comparison on the 3 star guards from Burlingame HS who all excelled from the beyond the arc. The stats are a bit surpising and not a lot separates Drew Shiller & Peter Pappageorge in that dept.

Drew Shiller 6'0 - 180
All Everything in HS incl. CA state Athlete of the Year.
Senior Year at BHS = 22 ppg
Freshman at USF = 4.4 ppg
Stanford 2007-08 = 3.5 ppg
Stanford 2008-09 = 2.5 ppg
Stanford 2009-10 = 7.5 ppg, 58 -3's [38.9%]

Peter Pappageorge 6'0 -182
SM Times POY in HS along with POY & 3 times first team All PAL
Senior Year at BHS = 20 ppg
Freshman at Canada = 15 ppg - All Community College Athletic Assn
Soph at Canada = 19.5 ppg - First Team All Coast Conference [41% - 3's, 46% FG's, 86% FT's, 75/181 - 3's]
Long Beach State 2011-12 injured hand most of season limited action, 36% - 3's, 45% FG's
Long Beach State 2012-13 6.9 ppg, 51-3's for 37%

Frankie Ferrari 5'11 - 160
Mercury News POY in HS
Senior Year at BHS = 22 ppg
Freshman at USF 2014-15 = 1.3 ppg, 28% on FG's [1-14 on 3's]

Rmbr, are you related to ARHSStats? Lol! Nice work.
Though their numbers are close, competition that Shiller faced in the Pac 10/12 was much better.

Impressive stats. What does this tell me? If you want to stand out, go to a great high school (ie Burlingame), light up the scoreboards in front of friends and family...stay in the PAL; avoid the daiy grind of the WCAL
A WCAL lineage doesnt guarantee you a seat at the DI table either, but it does give one a more realtstic taste showing that points and separation is at a premium. and nothing is guaranteed at the next level. The good think I imagines all these kids are bright enough to play at the next level and get that little thing called a diploma.

Thanks for the compliment Jordan as ARHSstats does a great job. As for your comment about the competition each faced I could not agree more after their intial transfers. One interesting stat is that Ferrari avg ppg his senior year at Burlingame was 22, while the year prior at Riordan in the WCAL it was 10.8 [less than 1/2], which gives credence to comments by CityVibes. One of the games while at BHS Ferrari lit up Leigh for 46 points and that really doesn;t happen in the WCAL due to their style of defense [heck the whole team might not score 46, but I would have liked to see Ferrari lighting it up like that regardless].
Will be interesting to see how he does at the next school.

Really enjoyed going back and reading what so many people had to say about Frankie and how wrong they were. The assumptions people made were comical at best. Frankie loves proving people wrong and there is NO one that works harder.

well as it turned out Ferrari was the better player at the end if the day

When I saw bump for Larry I could only think of the cornhole bumping variety I mean wow, if he sucked any harder on his 2015 opinion of Frankie Ferrari he would be in a porno and probably not of the kind anyone would be proud to be seen in. Talk about taking it in the pooper at the end of the day. As they say, “his post didn’t age well”. That’s an understatement. Have you seen the South Park episode where randy marsh gets an award for taking a gold medal sht? The posts by Larry are the gold medal standard bearer for easily the worst series of posts ever posted on the site. A real fecal accomplishment to stare in awe of. Really serves as a sht-stain on this site we can always go back and laugh at over the years as Frankie’s career progresses. Sort of like the ex that you can go back and bang whenever you like those 2015 posts will be like motel 6 - we will keep the light on for you!

Larry and people like him should be posting about gardening and dishwashing and things of the like. Or maybe signing up for a crossing guard at the local elementary school, but he would have to register for Meghan’s law so cancel that. I don’t think he’s allowed around a schoolyard pickup game let alone a hardwood basketball court as evidence by his “legendary” take on Bay Area legend Frankie Ferrari. Must suck to be so wrong about one of our own. Playing in the nba summer league, lighting up one of the best leagues in the world on opening night, and of course two-time first team all-wcc awards with jaw-dropping highlight reel mixtapes to prove it.

Now that Frankie left this board in the dust, who else’s dreams are you going to try to diminish or have you learned your lesson? Rebounding from that abomination should be impossible unless you have seen the light.

Lol just read LL takes on Frankie! Dude couldn’t have been more wrong, what’s interesting is how much detailed expert analysis LL had post after post. Steak posted something about USF jumped on the bandwagon and should have taken Dunbar but left it at that. Most people were wrong about Frankie but LL just kept going with his expert analysis post after post. Comical and a good laugh. Stick to Chico State and D2 you seem to have a handle on that.

Frankie is a great example that this is a marathon and the goal is to keep getting better so you are peaking as you finish up college and head into the professional ranks.

I was wrong on Frankie and glad it worked out for him

Frankie got better over time. A lot of gym work and working on his athleticism, which was a weakness. He also set out a year to develop and that helped him out a lot.

I am a USD Toreros fan, so I watch a ton of WCC Basketball. I'm 32, been watching the conference since the Blake Steppe and Adam Morrison Days.

Never have a I seen a player improve so much from their sophomore year of college till their senior year. Over that period of time Frankie took his game and body to a new level. And it got him a nice pro contract overseas.
