Friday Night Football Scoreboard

Taking in all six games tonight, the collective winning score was 152-20.

Three teams posted shutouts (Los Gatos, Rancho Cotate and Elk Grove)

“The Ranch” biggest surprise? Congrats to those kids for getting over hump.

NBL could have 2 section champs but Newman and MC is going to be a battle. I think weather favors MC given there offensives woes. I could see a 14-10 type game or lower scoring. Suppose to be downpours and heavy wind. Good luck to all.

How does Central match up with Serra/VC, Oak Ridge/MT or McClymonds?
Central is the biggest and most powerful of the other 5.
-VC should be able to defend the Central ground game pretty well but may struggle with the Central air assault. I doubt VC can score against Central defense.
-Serra may struggle to stop the Central ground game but should be able to score with screens, posts and the like. Serra will be more like Buchanan only with more offensive versatility. I would expect a higher scoring game with Central dominating the 4thQ.
-MT will struggle against Central. After seeing the MT/Folsom game, I am really surprised MT won. Folsom scored almost every time they got the ball but MT's ball control and clock management made all the difference in the world. That game plan will not work against Central. Central should be able to run on MT and defend both the MT run and pass. That being said, MT should be able score better than VC or Mack.
-OR has a little better balance than MT and VC. However, OR may be forced into an one dimensional game if they struggle in their rush attack. I think Central will be able to shut down OR's ground game and they should be able to defend against the pass.
-Mack is fast and agile. However, I think lack of depth will hurt Mack badly. IMO, Mack is not operating at the level to compete with Central, let alone MT, OR, Serra or VC. They probably would hang in for a quarter with Central or maybe longer. But I doubt Mack could maintain its speed for much longer than that.

Here's the report I've gotten from relatives and a few friends from the 'NO' that know Central/Edison/Washington Union football programs very well. They all agree that Central's run defense is their Achilles heel. Not as athletic as it's been the past few years. They've been to all of Centrals playoff games this year and they believe Central doesn't match up well against a team like MT. They said the Grizzlies would probably match up better with the other three teams. Still not sure who would win the game if it's someone other than MT. They also believe MT would press Central into some unusual unforced errors due to their ball controlling offense. They believe a close game would ring victory for the Mustangs. There you have it. Some well known football dudes from Fresno that told me how they see things on their end.

My peoples in the "NO" would probably agree with you on everything except Centrals run defense. They see MT giving them serious problems with their run game. Especially if they can complete a high percentage of their passes. They're not sure how Central stacks up against the other 3 teams but they do have concerns about MT's veer offense.

If weather is bad tnite MT wins. They will just control ball and OR will have a hard time passing in downpours and 20mph+ wind. Also Dylan warfield who is OR best RB/DB has been out last couple weeks. Not sure of his status. They actually have a JV kid who has filled in nicely but not at same level or physicaliry as Warfield. Lamson will need to run for a lot of yards tnite if they pull this off.
Either team will play central close imo. Both teams are too good to get blown out.

That may be true in a historical view of Central. However, the performance history takes a turn when considering an opponent like MT/OR/VC/Serra -vs- Folsom. Your description may suggest they would have struggled with Folsom this year but might paired up well with the considered foursome. In the couple games I saw, they shouldn't have much problem defending against MT but would have struggled with Folsom.

they actually caught breaks vs Elk Grove too called 2 back to back touchdowns off the board and ended up being 2nd and like 40
Those weren't breaks"..they were flagrant penalties. Unofficial WHS stats....219 total offense...10/17 passing for 107 yds, 1 pic....EG defense had their number...

I'm not here to say you're wrong or right FBAddict. All I'm doing is giving a report from people I know closely that have ties to Central's football program. These are some of the people that run in Tim McDonald's circle. So I take their word as the gospel when it comes to Fresno football. And they do have real concerns about MT's veer. Like I always say, I'm just a gotdamn poster not a psychic.;)The Junkie

my point is the score could’ve been a lot worse. Whitney had no answers for elk groves offense. Elk Grove attempted maybe 3 passes all game

From what I saw EG is NOT passing team....far from it....Whitneys problem was not the EG offense...it was their own ability to not gain first downs....WHS offense flopped....athlete for athlete they matched up just fine....

Nobody on Whitney’s defense matched up with elk groves qb kid was fearless. Elk Grove just wanted it more maybe Whitney was just happy to be there after going 0-10 last year

I think every team that played EG had difficulty with Harris not just WHS. Ask the teams that beat them....It was much more the scheme, not athletes that hurt them....EG did well, hats off to them...
