SHC beat Valley Christian 6-3 today at USF, sweeping the season series.
VC scored a single run in the first on a walk, a bunt to move the runner over and an RBI double.
Irish came alive in the 3rd, scoring after a walk, a wild pitch that moved the runner to second, followed by an RBI single.Two more singles scored two more runs to make it 3-1 Irish. SHC scored another in the 5th thanks to a single, a bunt- out, another single to right which put runners at first and third, followed by another bunt down the first base line that drove in a run, making it 4-1.
VC scored twice in the sixth with an infield single, an RBI double, making it 4-3 Irish. On the next play with runners at first and third, the third baseman opted to try for a double-play instead of throwing out the runner at home. Instead, the result was one out at second. A groundout to the pitcher and a strikeout ended the inning.
SHC answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth with a groundout to shortstop with the bases loaded and nobody out. The attempted double-play failed with a late throw to first. A single to center drove in another run to make it 6-3 Irish.
Reliever Marty Cole ended the game with a fly ball to center, a line-out to the pitcher and a strikeout.
