In checking MaxPreps today Eureka has dropped to 7th after a loss to Arcata with Clayton Valley moving to 6th and O'dowd at 8th. I still think O'dowd gets the 6th spot if they beat Oakland Tech on Thursday, but with MaxPreps rankings who knows.
As of today...I know the DAL has playoffs and I'm pretty sure the O'Dowd league does too.
But losing to Acalanes might not affect the rankings as much as BOD or Piedmont losing to the other.
If no league playoff...does anyone know who is considered the "league champ" if BOD and Piedmont tie?O'Dowd league does not have playoffs so they will not play Piedmont again. As we don't know what goes into MaxPreps rankings I wonder how much a lost to Acalanes would hurt Clayton Valley in the algorithm as it would be considered a quality lost. I think that even if Eureka wins their league the best win between the final three would be if O'Dowd's beats Tech which should move them up, but don't know if it would be enough.
It does appear that even if Carondelet were to win the EBAL playoff, and SRV becomes the #3 seed, SRV as the regular season champion would get the designated home game status. If no league playoff...does anyone know who is considered the "league champ" if BOD and Piedmont tie?
CN will be league champ so if that is the 4/5 the game its at CN regardless.
If CLET is the 3? Then that BOD (at 6) scenario could mean CLET at BOD.(if BOD is designated as league champ)

USA top 10 junior ? Who is that ?Honestly BOD with THREE D1 girls (including a USA top 10 junior) that they are the common sense 6.
Before the season started 1 could make the case that BOD was the best team returning in the NCS...
I was mistaken... Myella Chapman she's a sophomore (2027) and has offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Utah, Florida State, UW, Arizona & Cal among others...USA top 10 junior ? Who is that ?
I am very curious to see how that 6th seed plays out. How does the MaxPreps algorithm look at a CVC loss to Acalanes compared to a Salesian win over lower ranked Pinole Valley team. Also, this is another good example how NCS should mix in a human element as well as both CVC and O'dowd beat Salesian by 20 plus in their match ups.
What is the deal with BOD? Them not being an open team is funky .Cvc up to 6!
Salesian makes a huge jump to 7!
BOD down to 8...
Cvc plays Acalanes tonight
Salesian plays Pinole Valley.
From out of no-where does Salesian pass CVC for the 6 spot with a win and CVC loss???
SRV vs CLET tonight to decide the 2/3 and crazily there's a real chance that no matter who wins 10 days from now they play each other again in the 2 v 3 2nd round with the 2 sitting for 10 days! Dare I say? It might be an advantage to be the 3 seed in that (3rd time play each other) matchup and get that 3 v 6 game under their belt rather than sit for 10 days???
Wow! Still so much left to decide based on tonight's games!
I would generally agree that 1 loss doesn't change the numbers that much but BODs loss to OT dropped them from 6 to 8...They are locked in to six teams. They only have so many NorCal berths.
As for the rankings changing, one game generally doesn't move the numbers that much. If it stays like this, Damian Young, who was an assistant at Carondelet and Miramonte with Kelly Sopak, will face his old boss in the first round.
Are you saying a former East Bay public school coach who's now the commissioner would give a seedings break to an East Bay public school over a private or North Bay school? If Salesian is in the Open after having a 20 point loss to BOD the miraculous updated rankings last night continues to shed light on who has their hands in the maxpreps formula. And I say that Salesian finds themselves at #6 tomorrow.
And look at that..updated MP rankings and Salesian is now the 6!
Out of nowhere!
So...
1. ACALANES
2. SRV
3. CLET
4. CN
5. PIEDMONT
6. SALESIAN (Who has 20 pt. losses to the 2 teams behind them in the rankings..CVC and BOD)
We are about to find out if the committee is actually going to do their job or just take the cowards way out and go by MP.
And there you have it, Salesian #6. The problem is Bishop O'Dowd has only had 23 contacts when the maximum is 26(not including league tournaments). O'Dowd has a 67-47 win over Salesian 3 weeks ago. I am not a GURU but my guess is the maxpreps ratings formula does include total games played. Head to head contacts was always the first criteria. When completing play-off applications coaches spend hours dissecting schedules to rank teams where they belong in all divisions. There are plenty of people like northbayguru and myself that would be willing to sit on a committee to make this fair and accurate. It is unfortunate that the NCS is 1) lazy and 2) crooked. Are you saying a former East Bay public school coach who's now the commissioner would give a seedings break to an East Bay public school over a private or North Bay school?
Naw....that would never happen...
Oh wait....
Two more losses. One less win. The algorithm loves wins. (That's why O'Dowd is behind Salesian.)I need someone to explain Eureka’s ranking. Lost to Arcata twice. Best win is against a Northern Section team with an inflated record vs rural teams. They also lost to San Marin. How are they still ahead of Arcata?
We had a better system!Come up with a better one.
