Openings

On Edjoin, I saw that the Half Moon Bay Head Coaching job is listed..

They are required to post job every year, but job is not open. Only becomes an issue if a teacher on staff wants the job vs off-campus coach
What is interesting is that actually happened at HMB in the early 2000's. Coach Racine was running a nice program but a teacher wanted the job so by union contract, Racine was let go. Also happened at Aragon in girls volleyball - won CCS then the coach was let go the as a teacher wanted the position.

This is known unofficially as the "Rialto rule" dating to an instance at Rialto High in SoCal about 30 years ago. A basketball job was given to an off-campus applicant when there was a qualified on-campus applicant. The on-campus applicant sued and prevailed.

They have to be credentialed and on campus.
The janitor or lunch lady who work on campus aren't eligible. Also, the school can say the credentialed person doesn't fit the criteria of the position. But the school probably doesn't want to deal with it so they just bump the non credentialed off campus coach

Everybody's tired of losing to Newman, MC, and Redwood over here..... In all seriousness, there are not enough players to currently build around. They are coming though. 4-8th have bodies and talent. Lots playing club. We are currently still filtering through the covid middle school classes from 2020-21. The talent level from those classes is thin...girls playing soccer, lax, or vollwyball (thats another story over here). The JV level last year was at an all time low and only Redwood had a freshman team. Doesn't give coaches much hope right now. Gonna take some patience and participation at the youth level.

Count your blessings. You don't have to be a CCS public school mentor and have to deal with not one but two very strong private/parochial leagues (Pinewood, Menlo, Priory, SI, SHC, SF, VC, Riordan and, oh, yes, nearly forgot about Mitty) that suction off the vast bulk of the available talent in the entire West Bay region. Talk about frustrating.

I think MCAL will be fun at the top next year. RW, MC and San Marin lost a solid senior class, but I think those games will be as competitive as ever. RW has the size, but San Marin just has that get after it mentality. MC will be light depth wise, but athletic. The coaches know each other way too well for it not to be fun.

Volleyball is having an impact everywhere. No running, no contact ...

Regardless, that's a lot of head coaching jobs to fill.
