Pretty honest take at De La Salle program

What's their formula? I'm curious to know.

Here are a few of my takeaways:

1) Church, school administration, coaching staff have to be on the same page regarding sports. Sports has to become a mission... The Parochial schools have a lot to offer families... They offer Christian Outreach, excellent academics, a safe and nurturing environment, and top flight athletics to kids who otherwise would not have the kind of access...The programs that are successful do a great job of preparing families for college....The Church community, administration, academic staff, counselors, and coaches do a great job of preparing these families.

2) Gotta have an inside connection to the local Pop Warner Circuit. (SoCal has an amazing Pop Warner circuit. Lots of talent) If you get access to 5-10 top kids per year, your will compete for a state/national championship.

3) Coach has to swallow his ego!!! The kids that you bring in will attract a ton of recruiting attention. Dont try to compete with the kids for media recognition. Your recognition will come through your effectiveness of preparing kids/families for the next level and placing them in the best position to succeed. Most families will buy into this approach. If you take great care of the families; they will never forget you!!!!

4) Be prepared! The culture of your program may change! (The celebrations, bravado, acrobatic plays, woofing, the speed, tenacity, size, overzealous and enthused parents, a new community of fans) Gotta love it... Take it in stride!!! Lol

5) Run your program like a Power 5 conference team! Dont run the wing T, the the Veer, The Fly, or any other gimmick offense. Hot Shot QBs dont wanna be relegated to hand off duty and stud WR dont wanna be relegated to down field blocking. Lol

I can think of one program that might dispute this.

There is one reason and one reason only for the super teams in the south and his name is Jason Negro. He coached pop warner for many years in SoCal and has many connections in that area. Before he became coach at SJB they were not a good football school at all.One poster in particular named Steeler on the national board proclaimed at the time of his hiring that SJB would become a power because of his youth football connections and he was right.

Stop right there it DLS that drives everything that’s happening in Socal. Ask ThunderRump he will tell you!

Yes and no. The intent was to put all of the top teams in the Pac-5, but it was still league-based. As such, you got a lot of teams that couldn't win an SS D-VI title, much less one in D-I playing in those playoffs.

Right. I get that the new system is better and more difficult, especially with Centennial in the mix, but the PAC5 still largely contained the programs that could realistically run the bracket — sans Centennial as stated. I mentioned MV too, but let’s face it — they aren’t a real threat so who cares? J/k

What was it that prompted the LA Times to refer (at the time) to the 2013 St. John Bosco team as the greatest in Southern Section history? The win over Mater Dei or the win over De La Salle?

Don't kid yourself, SJB and Mater Dei both have/had national championship aspirations (Mater Dei has had them since the 90s), but you can't get that without beating DLS.

True that.

Good points, and I think point #3 is underrated

Your DLS superiority complex is funny. Socal teams and coaches didn’t collectively decide to build super teams because of DLS dominance. That is about the most ridiculous stance I have read on these boards. They have built these teams to compete in the southern section the SBG was a after thought for most programs down south, winning that southern title was more important in all reality. DLS was not the driving force behind this.

Actually, I think you are both right.... So Cal did not like losing to DLS each year in the SBG Coupled with the entrance of Ca Top Public Corona Centennial into the PAC 5 is what created the Super Teams...

You hit the nail on the head, winning the Southern Section is important and CC was becoming dominate to the point they won Back to back Titles over Bosco and all the other Top teams... So Bosco and MD upped their game and here we are...

I do believe it will even out though... At some point all these talented Kids are going to want to play and not sit on the bench... Or the CIF will change the transfer rules...

It will not stay this way forever, it never does... :)

A little over the top, aren't you? Nobody said the SBG is irrelevant. The Southern Section is the toughest bracket in the nation, and that's a fact. To win it is an amazing accomplishment. DLS has no such difficult path to the SBG. Heck, they don't even have to play their step-child Folsom to get there. You may not like it, but the top So Cal teams look at the SS Championship as their primary goal. Lately, it's a two-team race, but the publics like Cen10 aren't backing down. Its fun. Relax.
SoCal has 2.5 teams that can play with anyone. NorCal has 2 right now. After these 5 teams it’s just real hs football.

Oh man, I love this game of assumptions, connecting dots and straw man arguments.

Where did you read that it was an issue? I simply provided a partially tongue-in-cheek POV. Do we now live in a world where you can't acknowledge what's in plain sight w/o someone making more out of than that? Sheesh.

Furthermore, you can refer to yourself as 'informed' all you want. But being informed and someone's choice of words aren't mutually exclusive. You choose to call it 'poaching' while others may choose to call it 'recruiting'. No harm, no foul.

Lastly, this assumption that someone has to be a DLS fan/supporter simply because they mock the SS/Trinity way of life is comical. I got news for you, 99% of the States of Texas, Florida and Georgia mock it too. Sorry that the good-natured ribbing hit a nerve. ;)

Local anesthesia fully in play here so fire away. Actually, next time in ask for 3% Mepivacaine; more effective than 2% Lido with epi. On NCP; fully titrated with Marcaine (look it up.) Ask poppy1314.

So now we have “talent infusion.” How vanilla. Thankfully the new middle school academy is full pay, with only STEM trajectoried families allowed to “apply.”

Looks like TunderRam is making a lot of friends.

That is a pretty honest assessment. Socal year in and out usually has 3-4 and obviously 2 in Norcal with DLS/Folsom. Then you have great HS teams like St Francis and DO who battled last night. That was great football.
