It’s pretty amazing VC is doing this without a real QB. Stout and opportunistic scoring defense and a one-two punch at running back. That Machado can really coach his butt off.

Heck yes I pumped to be ahead but I was never confident. Sure enough my concerns were valid. Our DB #2 was dead center with Keanaaina to make the tackle and stop that long run in 3rd Qtr. but he didn’t want any smoke and watched him run right by him.

Damn
Let’s be real. Any DB as wire-thin as Wiley and there are those on many teams so not singling him out, is going to make a business decision and not take on Kingston 1 v 1. But I give it to that SI defense, 9 guys (not the cornerbacks) played an extremely physical game. You better hope your two WR Polk and Shelton aren’t too shaken up. They looked like they had to go into the infirmary after the hits they took.

He’s a freshman, but has played football since he was a pee wee with the same VC players. Very poised and doesn’t make mistakes.

For sure! His lack of mistakes is a huge part of VCs success so far. When your highlight reel is basically hand offs, QB power, and play action, its hard to screw up. Even for a freshman. Does he play any other position? He's probably better suited to be middle LB. Seeing a QB that size brings images of JaMarcus Russell to mind.

Lets see if VC can play spoiler and down the cherries.

We have arrived at one of the most defining week for WCAL play. The Wildcats defended and lost their top billing this weekend. This Lancer victory vindicates predictions made by a couple posters who insisted St. Francis was the best team in WCAL this year. For me, this game showed that the WCAL league is not particularly strong this year. Both Serra and St. Francis lost to DLS by double digits. And while Serra beat Folsom, this game now seems like an anomaly. Riordan lost to San Ramon Valley who just got blasted by DLS. Sure, we all know the best of WCAL teams will provide a strong defensive battle to any team but I think there is a lot of parity among the top CCS teams this year.
Here's my rankings.
1. SF - The Lancers was ready for the strong second half pattern of the Wildcats play. It was all SF in the second half at SI's home. The Lancers still have AR, VC and SHC ahead of them.
2. SI - The Wildcats couldn't get their offense going in the second half to compete with SF. They have VC, SHC and AM teams remaining.
3. JS - The Padres dispatched AM with decisiveness this afternoon. They still have BCP, AR and VC remaining.
4. VC - The Warriors seemed lackluster in their win over SHC or possibly the Irish came to play. Either way, VC maintained their hold on 4th place in WCAL. They have the top three of WCAL ahead of them.
5. AR - The Crusaders had no problem dealing with BCP this afternoon. They have AM, JS and SF still ahead.
6. SHC - The Irish made a good stand against VC but just couldn't keep them from scoring. The Irish have SF, SI and BCP on the schedule.
7. AM - The Monarchs got plenty of points on the board but just couldn't stop JS from scoring at will. The schedule holds AR, BCP and SI in the future.
8. BCP - Enough said.
I don’t think the WCAL is weak this year. I think de la Salle is better than they’ve been in over a decade. I think this DLS team could actually beat Bosco, not mater dei, but Bosco. Saint Francis has historically good running back and serra is good too, but young. They’re going to slay next year. I can’t wait to see what DLS does in state. Unfortunately, I think they’re going to be matched up with mater dei and they don’t have the guns for them

Serra won't slay without a quality QB.

Does anyone know what the Open/D1 playoffs would look like if the season ended today?
Open DLS vs Mater dei
D1AA Nor cal Pittsburg vs Folsom So Cal Lincoln vs sierra canyon
D1A Nor cal Rocklin vs St Francis So cal Clovis East vs Granite hills

I think this is NorCal in general

St Francis
Serra did for a long time
And De la salle still does

Outside of Folsom, St Mary and a few others. It's more of a run the ball control the clock football game here.

Southern California
Texas
Florida
Georgia

More passing the ball and spread offense.

I mean at least that what it seems Folsom got a 5 star QB but I think most of NorCal doesn't have a 2 star or a highly touted QB

Down south and then other states are heavy on the QB and speed
Great points. I think DLS has the most dynamic run game of the three teams you listed (SF, DLS, Serra), and it's bolstered by their discipline, coaching & that beautiful explosive line snap technique. I love what Walsh has done by infusing some more pro-style packages. Even though Serra is having a bit of a down-year by their standards, they will be in just about any game because their offense is dynamic enough.

You do realize that outside of making the playoffs Regalia only had 1 winning season (2019) in his last 10 years at the helm?

Vandermade is about to break his streak of 1 winning season in his only 2nd year as the HC while setting up a chance for SI to win the WCAL outright which has never been done.

By the way you are defending Regalia, you must be a part of the old guard who doesn't like to see an outsider come in and take credit for making SI a football power.

We're new to SI so we don't have the biases to the old guard some of the alum like you obviously do.

Not defending Regalia, I was merely pointing out facts. Sorry if the truth offends you. Sue me. Or blow me, I’m cool with either.

Regalia had more winning seasons in the his last 10 years than Riordan had playoff appearance in that same amount of time lol. Hell, I think Regalia won more games in his second season (not by his second season) than any of the six previous coaches before Ravipati ever did before the got canned LMAO! And the fact remains that Regalia stepped down. While he may not be a legend, he sure as hell was an SI legend and his job was not remotely in jeopardy. Had he wanted to remain coaching, Vandermade would still be in SoCal.

Everything I’m saying is fact, there’s no debate anywhere. My whole argument was that SI’s Football Program was much more stable when Lenny took it over than Riordan’s was when Adhir took it over.

Fake news. Do your homework while you chew on mi verga!

At half, Im sure you were beating your chest and you should. Defensively it just looked like SI had all the answers and Lancers just looked stunned that they could not run the ball. 2nd half blocking adjustments took care of that, plus SI's defense wore down. Dont have the overall statistics but it sure looked like SF time of possession for the game was 80%.

And that should do it as far as WCAL POY. Kingston definitely will take those honors. In a high stakes game like this, your team's best player needs to show up. Kingston in the 2nd half was phenomenal. Hummel was pretty bad. And thats just being nice. He was 7 for 17 for 14 yards. FOURTEEN passing yards!!!

Ive watched enough of his games and sure enough, he still cant throw over the top. He only throws timed 10 yard out routes to Polk or Shelton and really good teams know that and sit on those routes. Robinson of St. Francis did that and picked him off. Hummel needs to be better or whoever is calling the plays need to call better/different plays.

Looking forward to a rematch in CCS Open.

Unfortunately, I would have to agree with your take on our MVP QB Hummel. Throwing for 14 yards in a big game against SF is unacceptable.

Hence, why he’s going to a D3 school and St. Francis’ MVP is going to D1 Power BYU.

Hopefully, I’m hoping SI gets back on track this Friday with a win against VC.

A team in the Riordan team in the hall that didn’t win shit. Yet a Riordan team who went against Reggie Geary not. Dwayne Fontana, Rodney Glover, Dorian Manigo. Carlos, I can go on and on, that team belongs
You asked about soccer…
I was in grade school but I was there. I agree. Buck and a young Jaha too.
Don’t forget that ‘85 team that gave Stevie Thompson’s Crenshaw team a run for their money. Newman, Munk, Mullins, Racklin and Peed.

Guess you got me there, old age. But I thought we had the best record in league Jamar Shepard senior year. Did they have playoffs then.
SHC was Independent when Jamar Sheppard was there. For some idiotic reason, the CCS didn't allow them in the playoffs.

It seems our WCAL rankings are pretty well set for the league season. All teams this week won their games as expected. And all games were on Friday night. There is always a possibly of an unexpected change in future rankings but most surprises seem behind us now.
Here's my week 5 rankings.
1. SF - The Lancers' dominance was seen against SHC last night. Most of SHC's scores were gained after SF developed a 35 point lead. The Lancers still have VC and AR left on their schedule.
2. SI - The Wildcats implemented their trademark strong 4th quarter strength to overtake VC's lead they held for most of the game. Half time defensive adjustments changed the course of the game. SI have SHC and AM teams remaining.
3. JS - The Padres was not challenged by the Bells. They still have AR and VC next on their schedule.
4. VC - The Warriors had a good first half against SI. But they could not maintain their lead during SI's 4th quarter onslaught. They were scoreless in the second half and their defense couldn't keep up in the fourth quarter. They have SF and JS remaining.
5. AR - The Crusaders' offense were firing on all cylinders for their defeat of AM. They have JS and SF still ahead.
6. SHC - The Irish gained most of their points after SF already had a sizable lead. The Irish have SI and BCP left on the schedule.
7. AM - The Monarchs had a hard time stopping AR from scoring in this lopsided game. The schedule holds BCP and SI in the future.
8. BCP - Enough said.

The black uniforms looked great! I’ll take the W, but we can’t keep winning like this. My nervous system is shot.
Their black hoops uniforms are nice. These football ones just looked really cheap and unimaginative. Hummel played must better and he had some nice passes that were quick slants and not just his predictable 10 yard outs. 2nd half was no contest. VC offensively couldnt do anything. As I noted before, VC doesnt have a real QB. Was there no junior or sophomore backup QB from last year who gives them more than what the freshman gives?

I recall the QB that really could have helped the Warriors transferred to Logan and is now at El Cerrito. Craft?

Riordan's Defense is figuring it out. Mitty does not have the horses to match up with anyone other than Bellarmine but they

"The Black Cherries"

I wonder why the hell they don't just go with Blue instead

Apparently, it's a manly thing, an intimidating hue that denotes fearsome, warrior-like behavior. At least in theory.

I know in the early 90s, the football and basketball teams donned their SI blue color for their jerseys and mid 90s and since they have went with their SI red. ... Its possible they've stayed away from blue since 4 other league members have blue as school colors.

In the 1890's, they wore black and yellow. (No, I wasn't there to see it...).

Then why aren’t they called purpleberries?
Maybe the guy who named it was color difficient.

Better question: Do you think at all, James Warren Jones, Jr.?

Here's a question?

Does any North California team really want to make it to the State Championship game against Mater Dei?

I selfishly, would be okay with SI losing the Open Division round dropping down to D1A or D1AA and winning from there.
