Pretty good matchups as the WCAL winds down to its final 2 games:
  • SI @ SHC (Kezar Stadium). It's the "Bruce"! Anything can happen!
  • St. Francis @ Valley Christian. WCAL title implications on Skyway Drive.
  • Mitty @ Bellarmine The Bells seek their first win of the season over their San Jose rival
  • Serra @ Riordan Should be a packed house on Alumni day. Interesting note: Starting in 2000 - former coaches (Peralta and Langridge) and former player (Darius Bell) have multiple wins each over the Padres. They are all now at Serra.
Good note on the Riordan Alumni now at Serra. That is the most intriguing WCAL of the week for me. Can Serra's offense keep up with Riordan's offense OR will it be that Riordan's offense can't outpace their defense?

Langridge family are All Serra ,
True. Langridge brothers coached at Riordan during Darius Bell's HS playing days. Bell was the Riordan OC with HC Fordon (former DLS) during that 2015 campaign. Peralta is an SH alum, but coached at Riordan that included its 2000 WCAL title (Before VC entered the league)

Defense and who has the most discipline minimizing turnovers and penalties will be the keys to the game. Special teams will also be a factor.

Saint Francis will get at least a share of wcal reg season title

Sicp coach got to be coach of the year in northern California, he only got one d1 player I believe someone said. They play as a true team

Riordan defense been better the last 3 weeks. They got a big win for they program beating serra

I was certain I should wait for this week's ranking for my view of the WCAL and it was justified by Riordan's win over Serra. However, this win complicates the rankings. I had to make some unfavorable judgment calls this week. Here's my take:
1. SF - The Lancers were the clear winner of this week's game with VC. SF was dominant in the rush and seemed to score at will. They are now the likely WCAL champ with only AR in the way of that sole crown. A improbable loss to AR would cause record tie with SI.
2. SI - The Wildcats were able to outscore SHC for a victory this week. Their last game is with AM.
3. AR - The Crusader's exceptional game win over JS causes me to make a judgment call placing AR over VC and JS. VC has beaten AR on the field so in WCAL league rankings, the AR win over JS creates a probable 3 way tie at third place between AR, JS and VC. But I am speculating that AR will improve to justify bypassing the VC loss.
4. JS - The Padres could not maintain their early lead on AR and lost the battle in the 3rd quarter to a fired up AR team. This loss probably signals a 4th place in my WCAL rankings. The record will show a 3 way tie in the WCAL between AR, VC and JS. The Padres must win their game with VC next week to maintain this 4th place ranking.
5. VC - The Warriors were overwhelmed by the rush attack from the Lancers. Their poor showing and the stellar performance of AR against JS led me to bypass VC's previous win over AR and move them down to 5th place. Only a win over JS will change my personal rankings and it would justify a move from #5 to #3 over AR in my opinion. In the current WCAL record, VC, AR are now over JS and an unfortunate loss next week to JS would cause a 3 way tie the league win record.
6. SHC - The SHC Irish had a good 3 quarters with SI but were dominated in the 4th quarter. The best ranking SHC can hope for is this 6th place.
7. AM - The Monarchs were able to prove they were better than BCP this year in WCAL play. They dominated the beaten down Bells and secured at least a 7th place slot.
8. BCP - Enough said.

Excellent all-around work by Riordan today. Zero turnovers. Very few major mistakes or penalties of any kind. All three phases in sync. Probably one of their most complete games of the year. Well-done.

Most impressive was Riordan was able to run out the clock once Serra cut the lead to 6 in the 4th quarter. RBs Sr Jeremiah Jones , “Beast Mode” soph Adonyae Brown and the OLine simply wore down the Serra D.

What is the story with Serra, did their wills get broken a few games ago, has Riordan risen from the crypt or some combination of both? Serra seems like a really deflated team, maybe that SI loss was their death knell. SF vs. Riordan is going to be electric.

You obviously have never been on the MaxPreps football site to see how the current and previous seasons are categorized.

You should venture out more you might learn something.
You haven’t done your research on a fellow poster for you to start making idiotic statements. You have been doing good this year as long as you have stayed in your lane

Your humble look, is becoming🤫🤫, this look not So much😳😳

I will be the first to Tip My Cap to the Langridge Brothers and what they brought to Riordan and recognize the success vs. their own Alumnus program. (I.e. - 1/11th)

But today was the establishment of Coach A’s program deflecting that Serra chip on @TheR back. Just to say, “They are Not like Us”.

@TheR QB is committed to Vanderbilt vs. being a late pick up behind brotherly love being at WR/UCLA
@TheR we have multiple D1 committed vs. the Old School hope of previous 1 D1 commitments to SJSU under days of old Serra on loan leadership borrowed from Serra
@TheR we recognize the contributions from phenomenal coaches to help move the culture from never taking a TimeOut from the League,…mad respect

#JustMyOpinion,.. ICouldBeWrong

PS,… don’t get me started on WCAL COY debate🤫😳🤫

Its sort of crazy that VC hasnt really had a 3 or 4 star QB there given they had top WR talent in Collin Johnson and Jurrion Dickey.
It’s been and very long time since VC had a quality QB, the last in my opinion was Dante Perez. McIntyre had potential but after his junior year his dad got the Colorado head coaching job and the family moved. He went on to win all state honors, not sure it was at the QB position though.

Riordan's offense has been known for its passing game. What's been under the radar has been Riordan's running game. With Sr. Jones and soph Brown and the offensive line, they are just running into the teeth of a defense and still churning out 4-5 yard gains/down.
Serra gave up 244 rushing yards to the Crusaders. Only St. Francis and DLS gained more than 200+ yards against the stout Serra D this season. As @colhenrylives mentioned above, this was an overall clean game in regards to flags by both teams.
This will be critical playing the Lancers next week and as the playoffs approach.

It looks like our 23-24 football season has come to an end and St. Francis is the King of the WCAL.

Playoffs start next week and from what I gather from another poster PALbooster. There is a chance St. Francis and SI will rematch in the Open Championship.

Serra gets Riordan in a rematch in the 1st Rd as well.

Exciting times ahead in the post season!

I Luv the Serra vs Riordan matchup in the first round!,,,, Can Riordan and all that talent knock out the Reining Champ?…. Or do the The Champs end Riordan season in the first round?….. I can’t wait for this one!!… 🤣

Nothing is set in stone. St. Francis is losing to Riordan at the moment.

Final WCAL week ranking - I would have posted this earlier but I had other family obligations.

Archbishop Riordan has gotten their strength back just when it counts. They displaced St. Francis as the sole WCAL champion forcing the Lancers to share that title with St. Ignatius. First, I will list the placement of the WCAL teams within WCAL according to record.

WCAL Record Placement

#1 tie St. Francis 6-1
The lancers lost their final game to Archbishop Riordan. This created a tie in first place with the Wildcats. Their only WCAL loss was to the Crusaders.
#1 tie St. Ignatius 6-1 The Wildcats tie for co-champion of the WCAL thanks to the Crusaders. Their only league loss was to St. Francis.
#3 Archbishop Riordan 5-2 The Crusaders had a difficult start in WCAL league play losing to St. Ignatius and Valley Christian but then coming back to beat Junipero Serra and St. Francis. They may have the most momentum of any WCAL team right now.
#4 tied Junipero Serra 4-3 The Padres ended the league season tied with Valley Christian. They have losses to St. Francis, St. Ignatius and Archbishop Riordan but beat Valley Christian last night.
#4 tied Valley Christian 4-3 The Warriors have lost momentum due to injuries in late season. They have wins against Archbishop Mitty and Archbishop Riordan but lost three straight games to St. Ignatius, St. Francis and Junipero Serra.
#6 Sacred Heart Cathedral 2-5 The Monarchs have a win over Archbishop Mitty but losses to all 5 teams listed above.
#7 Archbishop Mitty 1-6 The only league win the Monarchs have is against the beaten down Bells.
#8 Bellarmine College Prep 0-7 The Bells may have just finished their worst season ever. They not only went winless in WCAL league but also in their entire season. Hopefully they will find a way to get out of this slump.

My WCAL Personal Rankings

I am not quite sure what to do with AR right now. They are on fire and carry very good momentum into the playoffs. I might be inclined to put AR as #1 in WCAL right now, but I think its best to let them win that ranking on the field. Here's my best thought on rankings.

#1. SF - I am going to keep the Lancers in the first position because I don't want to place them in a three-way tie with AR and SI.
#2. AR - Due to current momentum, I am going to place AR above SI even though SI beat AR on the field. They might be able to beat SF again, but we will leave that for the playoffs.
#3 SI - The Wildcats could just as easily been placed over AR and maybe SF with AR's defeat of SF. But I think AR's momentum will prove itself later.
#4 JS - The Padres fit nicely here at this spot for now.
#5 VC - The Warriors started league play strong but have struggled to stay healthy. They may be one and out for playoffs.
#6 SHC - It seems the Irish will get a good placement in a lower division for playoffs.
#7 AM - The Monarchs are done with their season.
#8 BCP - Enough said.

The teams which would give the south (MD, Bosco or Centennial; don’t sleep on the Huskies) just based on the way their offenses are structured as De La Salle and MAYBE St. Francis. Why do I say this? Well, talent aside both utilize offenses that go right at you and rarely lose yards.

When you stop De La Salle, it’s usually for a 1 yard gain and a loss of about 30 seconds. Same can kind of be said for St. Francis.

Serra, Folsom, SRV, Pitt and SI (doesn’t even sound right mentioning them in this conversation to be honest) do not have the patience to consistently try to go right at you and wear you down. They all eventually try to get cute and those 1 yard gains by DLS and SF turn into sacks, interceptions, or 5+ yard losses.
Very good observation… you are 100% correct

Can't argue with the immaturity and cockiness with the Crusaders early on. As noted, they are a relatively young team. Credit to Coach Ravipati and his staff in addressing the early struggles head on after that VC loss.
The Crusader D turned it up a notch going against Kingston and the SF offense. Riordan's offense has put the CCS on notice that it has a power running game to go along with Mike Mitchell's aerial show. This is the second straight week that Riordan's RBs simply ran it down SF's throats to close out the game. Soph Brown played it with class and could have scored another TD but instead just slid down to run out the clock. Does Riordan now have enough points to host a game next week?

Really think R has so much talent, like their hoops team they just don’t go all out if they don’t have. Combo of immaturity/ cockiness. When they have to

#MeansDoingWhatYouCantDo 🎤….drop

When a team doesnt capture the #KingsOfKezar, it’s not bad to ask, Who’s You Daddy?

Riordan is riding high. I’m certain no one wants see them in the playoffs next week.
Naw, #TheR is not riding High, #TheR is just doing what they do.

It’s healthy to stumble, then one knows what they are fighting for,….all want is the #KingsOfKezar at the end of the day

We Are Riordan
