Manoah is who I heard was coming. I know most people will roll their eyes at my statement but if you just go and look at his instagram, he’s got a picture of Coach Lenny posted last May 2023 so it’s was not hard to figure out.
Well, we will see soon enough. They should be within the top 3 in WCAL but I think its too soon to predict them as "the team to beat in NorCal", assuming you mean top 1-3 in NorCal.

Riordan's Peter Langi I think was a transfer last year as well and had to wait out 3 games before playing.
Hopefully, Manoah will be able to play by the time league play starts.
In high school it's simple, a parent or person who goes to a teams games and follows that team. Unlike the pro's or college there is usually connection to the team or school.

Notice all the hype and superlatives about Riordan this year aren't coming from any Riordan fans but posters outside looking in.
No doubt they have some talent this year but let's see how it plays out. How they do against their non-league schedule will be a good indicator on how good they are (@ McClymonds, @ St.Bonaventure-Ventura, @ Pitt).
Despite what FBIQ has posted, I have my doubts about their lack of fanship. I think AR has a really good chance of doing this year. And I am a fan of any WCAL team.
It's not AR's lack of fanship, it's just that they have little recent history of football success. They seem to have the pieces in place and just need to prove it on the field. Just a few years ago there was talk of how bad the football program was and some were suggesting they drop out of the WCAL due to dwindling talent and enrollment, poor facilities, coaching and admin support. Seems they have addressed most of those issues and are headed in the right direction.

It does seem pretty clear that SI is making a real investment in football as enrollment grows. The WCAL is no cakewalk, though. Don't minimize VC in these conversations. Mitty? Not sure. Bellarmine? Ouch. SHC? No. Once all eight WCAL rosters are firmed up (transfers in and out, sophs moved up, injuries, etc.), then we can speculate more intelligently.
Better than Jake Browning led Folsom bulldog team that put EVERY team they played that season on running clock? Even in the State Championship? That's a bold statement.
Offensively they should go up one more level with Mitchell coming off a record breaking sophomore season. They can probably average 50 points a game. More points, more fun right? He is likely going to break his own records that he set last year. As for team aspirations particularly in the playoffs, that will be determined how bought in their players are on defense. Not a lot of teams can stop Riordan on offense, but can their own defense stop anyone in the playoffs?
NO knock on JB but he threw allot of TD passes in garbage time. The Lyons kid is ranked pretty high... It isn't me saying they will be really good, it's Folsom folks....let the games begin
Oh I've been around this program for the last 20 years fairly close and I can tell you they are the real deal. I'm not a huge fan of some of the antics but rest assured this team is very talented and anything less than the norcal open bid would be a disappointment. Agree about JB comment. Only knock on Taylor and Richardson is that sort of stuff but its water under the bridge. Lyons is a freak of nature athlete and true dual threat QB. Lyons could play LB, Safety, and a few other positions and be a 4 star type recruit. Basically, a much better Justin Lamson from OR a few years back. Just a rare bird. Lyons single handily beat OR last year 2x. OR chance to get the monkey off their back and couldn't do it because of that kid.
Browning was like Joe Montana back there. Just cool and calm and a tremendous winner. I would say a much better passer at this stage with a weaker arm. Lyons has a lot of work to do in that area.
Long Beach Poly game isn't that far away. We shall see.
Irish will certainly be better than last season, even if "notacityfan" likes it or not. (I meant "not an 'SF' city fan") Not to mention that new fubo).

Kudos to authorities at SHC for hanging in there as a full-fledged member of the WCAL. It's not easy. A lack of on-campus football facilities and enormous pressure from fellow SF competitors SI and Riordan (and Serra too) add to the difficult SHC situation.

As for them being better, I can see it but I still do not see them being any better than 2-8, likely 1-9.
I do think the Irish beat Soledad (let's be honest, there will be a number of WCAL Freshman Squads better than Soledad this coming year and the game was scheduled with the sole intention of not getting "goose-egged" again if we are being brutally honest) and might be able to make it competitive against Prep who is always well coached.
However, I'm not sure who they beat after that one or two games.
Wilcox was in the CCS Div. 1 Game last year and rightfully so. They beat the Dog Shit out of St. Francis in the playoffs last year who clapped SHCP.
Riordan? No. They graduated nobody, I see the same result.
Do they make up 61 Points against Serra? Probably not.
Mitty? If last year's score is at all an indication, there is a chance but I seriously doubt it. If you watched last year's game The Monarchs were up 21 going into the 4th before they let the backups get some work.
VC? I could see Valley as I don't think they're very well coached and just try to line up better athletes but everyone seems to think they'll be a player in the WCAL Landscape this year.
St. Francis is in the same boat as Riordan, they were young and lost hardly anyone so I expect the same outcome.
St. Ignatius? Not if you listen to half of this board who seem to think Coach Lenny is the reincarnation of Christ himself.
I've heard Bellarmine picked up a few VC transfers so perhaps they too are improved.
Yeah, I think the Irish will be better but if I were a betting man I would wager my money on Coach Antoine being closer to being fired than a playoff birth, much less a run.
I think your 2-8 prediction is the likely consensus. maybe 3-7 if one extra game they played lights out. if they go 5-5 that would be "where did this come from?"
SH's strength is primarily offense. Lots of skilled guys that are dangerous in open space (Flanigan, Jenkins, Scott, Parham) Their achilles heel will be like last year, defense. I'll say this nicely, their defense was not physical and that was mostly with juniors/seniors to start the year. It wasnt until the mid-late season call ups of freshmen (Bellamy, Hightower, Parham) and increased play time from sophomore (Elliot) where you saw some improvement.
Will they be better this season? Sure. Unfair to pin that just on wins and losses. I will say you can tell early on how well the season will go if 1) can SH run the ball? Legend Williams cant run if the OL is going to be awful at run blocking. They were decent at pass blocking at least. 2) Does the defense want to actually tackle anyone? It should be much improved with Bellamy, Forks, Hightower, Elliott, and Parham leading the way.
I think their better players are on offense. I think their better coaching is on defense. I watch SH's offense and I seriously question whether their staff is getting their plays off of Madden '95 "Rookie Mode" with their Offensive Coordinator simply running the Madden suggested play. Defensively, I felt they at least lined up correctly. Offensively, it just looked extremely elementary. I think they would be well served with a smarter play caller.
Im curious how much better Coach Mike Hill could do with this group.
I see a 3 way battle for 2nd if neither of those teams are able to de-throne Serra.
I think SI might have a chance if their blue chip DT Manoah Faupusa is able to play in that game.

I guess it looks easy for you and me to point out stuff when in reality its extremely difficult to coach on that level especially since it is not a full time job that puts food on their table / roof over their head. It is an absolute SACRIFICE each of those coaches on EVERY team to give what they have, some even more, just to have the kids enjoy their high school playing experience. Your opinion is your own but dont punch down on coaches on teams that put in their time, resources, effort when that team is not a perennial football powerhouse, have D1 athletes every single year, or have an athletic department willing to spend.
It is likely the Phelan Avenue (oops) Phenoms will be favored to capture the crown.

Chemistry-wise, if the football team can put it together like the basketball team did last season, your prediction is leaning towards correct.
Official team workouts commence soon. Opening games are set for late August. That said, and not knowing the state of all eight WCAL rosters (injuries, transfers in or out, etc.), here is a very speculative prediction (league play only):

St. Ignatius, 5-2
4. St. Francis, 4-3
5. Valley Christian, 3-4

Non-league reoords are not included here. Too many variables. SOS varies wildly. Serra, for example, is fully expected to go 0-3 (vs. DLS, Folsom and Bosco) right out of the chute. Other schedules are not quite as daunting. Serra could end up 5-5 and still be a problem for league foes and later in the playoffs.

Going to be a fun league to watch this year!….
Riordan's first 3 non-league games vs Mack, St. Bonny's and Pitt + their scrimmage with Salinas are all on the road. They open up WCAL at Home vs SHC.
Curious if this was intentional to have more home games when Mitchell is a senior
Bellarmine/SH are not winning 2 games combined in league. Luckily one of them will end with 1 win unless they tie their game. I think VC will finish over 500 though.

I’m hoping I wasn’t just dreaming but I do remember seeing somewhere (believe it was on Twitter…or “X”) that Riordan had actually scheduled Servite at home to open up the season.
Nevertheless, this is year 2 of Riordan vs. St. Bonaventure. I’m pretty sure they’ll play 5 Home and 5 Away game next season.
That's weak that Del Oro backed out. The kids look forward to these games as there are only so many in a season that you've worked hard all off season for. The kids from both schools lose.
