Serra football celebrates nine NCAA Division I signees

Nice signing day article in the SM Daily Journal. Also mentions M-A and CSM signees.

“In addition to Bey and Mann, the Padres’ Division I commitments include: linebacker Marley Alapati, Army; tight end Cole Harrison, Tennessee; lineman John Holthaus, Colorado State; defensive back Kyon Loud, Montana; linebacker Danny Niu, San Diego State; offensive lineman Michael Pedrotti, Brown; and quarterback Maealiuaki Smith, Oklahoma State.“

AN ODE TO CHRISTMAS PAST

This is an Homage to some of the old time posters, who used to post on here.

Some posters would pretend to be porn stars, there would be flame wars. Things used to be get really crazy at times. It was like the wild west.

T’was the night before tournament and all thru the gym, not a creature was stirring except Amber Lyn.
The nets were hung by her sister Ginger, Who could shoot out the lights with the flick of her finger.

The JV’s were snuggled all in their beds, Thinking “ Varsity” with good play , and a fresh pair of Keds.

When out in the hallway there came such a clatter, the “Drolls” stopped spinning balls, to see what’s the matter.
“Sparten23” flew to the window in just two beats, someone had called out “ De La Salle cheat’s!!

Then , what to my wondering eyes did appear? But eight little players who played with no fear.
They ran with the ball, so lively and quick, I wondered for a moment , Division 4 St. Nick?

More rapid than Freemont, his coursers they came, the whistle blew and he called them by name.
“Now Sweetpea! Now Matsfan! Big Rod52! On JDub! On Lorenzo! On Oldschool!

To the top of the rim! To the top of the wall! Now rebound! Now outlet! Now fast break Y’all !!.

And then In a twinkling, a shout from the roof, “ THE BEST TEAM IS LODi !! And I’ve got the proof !!

I turned my head, and what did occur, In came this “ Player ” dressed in red fur. He picked up the ball with his Rosy red glow, and proceeded to drain ten in a row.

With a smiling face and a little round belly, he let out a laugh, like a bowl full of jelly.
He said: “ Wonce a yeer I’m glad to meatcha” wears dis guy called the Ingrich Teecher?

Up he sprang, when the Ref blew the whistle, and away they went, thru thick and Thistle.
Up the chimney, the same way they came, off his team went to play a new game.

“ I heard him exclaim” from way down the block, climbing the stoops.

“ Merry Christmas to all " Here’s wishing you great hoops! ”

Nike TOC Scores for Norcal Teams

Good start

Mitty 62 Miami Country Day 35. Very tough for any team that hasn't seen Mitty before to deal with its pressure. Actually, it's plenty tough for teams that have seen it too. Mitty missed an unusual number of inside shots, so it was not a rout. But the monarchs still won decisively by forcing a ton of turnovers.

Carondelet 62 West Linn (Or) 52

St Marys Stockton 56 Mission Hills (San Diego) 38. Was just a one point game at half. Mission Hills plays tough D and St. Mary's couldn't hit outside shots. St. Mary's superior athleticism was the difference in the second half.

Illegal screens epidemic

I almost never complain about the officiating... Maybe question a call here and there, but I haven't yelled at the refs in years... However...

I realize they call illegal screens tightly early in the season, but this year has gotten ridiculous.

It seems a lot of times, guys get this call sometimes when they are far away from the ball handler, not even showing that they intend to set a screen, yet a defender happens to bump into them, and WHISTLE! WTF? Is there some sort of rule change I haven't heard about?

December 20 Scores

Moreau Catholic (3-4) has gone 2-1 at the Tarkanian Classic with a final game today against Bishop Gorman. Its other losses have come to Mitty, St. Ignatius and St. Francis

Justin-Siena (7-1) beat Monte Vista (3-4) 40-38

Rocklin (10-2) beat Lincoln (8-3) 59-52. Rocklin freshman Gisele Negueloua had a team high 19 points. Lincoln trailed 18-8 after the first quarter but came back to force overtime

Bambauer Classic

While most Bay Area teams venture to Southern California for tournaments between Christmas and New Year, the Bambauer Classic is being played at Marin Catholic Dec. 27-30.

Top teams include Montgomery, St. Ignatius and University.

Personally, I think the most intriguing first round matchups are Urban-Ygnacio Valley and Central Catholic-King.

CIF State is preparing to separate privates from publics. Here is how a playoff system may have looked in 2022.

While it is not yet confirmed when it will happen, I can confirm that the California Interscholastic Federation is preparing to separate privates from publics for playoff purposes. I can not confirm whether this will only include parochial or rather extend to all schools with no enrollment boundaries but can confirm that a separation is in the works. The little information that I do have comes from a source that I would say is extremely credible.

This said, I did some homework and put together both Open Division and Division 1 brackets for both the Northern and Southern schools just to theoretically given an idea of what such a playoff system may look like. With over 1000 schools throughout the state participating in 11-Man football, the separation would obviously require additional Divisions for both Private and Public Schools alike. This bracket was created within the last few hours using CalPreps so the brackets are subject to be a bit off from what they may have been last week. Enjoy!
