Davis still perfect in Delta League

Davis beat Pleasant Grove (63-58) to move to 5-0 in the Delta League. Davis' only losses this year are to West Campus and Inderkum. Senior Katie Grahn had 25 points and Kim Schmelz had 28 for the Eagles in the loss.

Other Delta results were St. Francis over Franklin (78-31), Sheldon over Grant (51-39), Monterey Trail over Elk Grove (66-59).

Standings:

Davis 5-0
Pleasant Grove 4-1
Monterey Trail 4-1
Elk Grove 2-3
St. Francis 2-3
Sheldon 2-3
Grant 1-4
Franklin 0-5

SALESIAN 66...... PIEDMONT 62

It was close the whole way....

Piedmont was up 26-23 at half...McNair and Moore in early foul trouble...missed most of the 2nd period.

42-41 Salesian end 3rd....

Piedmont had their chances in the 4th....

In the end Salesian hit their free throws to hang on...

good game to watch....

and Kalea Dennis did not play for Piedmont....BUT she was warming up and was VERY active....

I got to believe she's got to be almost ready to go.

The Socal Website is Hilarious this was posted ...obviously T&C

I hate MD! No matter how good we think we are...they always beat us. No
matter how much we talk trash about them...they always stay classy and
quiet. No matter how much we accuse them of recruiting...great players
always seem to migrate on their own as they know they'll get great
practice and go up against great competition daily. Every year I post
that next year will be their demise, yet...they always have an awesome
team. Every year I want them to fail, yet...they always win their
division and then some. I just hate them! I want to hate those darn kids
too, but, well, they're just nice kids who work very hard and have
dedicated themselves. Oh yeah, I love to post how everyone sits on the
bench, but, hey, all schools have starters that play a majority of the
time as well and everyone can get their chance if they work hard. Well, I
still hate them because they, did I say they recruit...yeah, they cheat
and recruit. Those top D1 players should stay at their low caliber
schools and not train against other great players; they should stay at a
school that has no skilled coaching and hope to improve during club
season only or on their own. Afterall, its only basketball. I hate Mater
Dei because...I guess I'm just a jerk who wants to hate great players
working hard, representing socal and bleeding success. Oh yeah, I hate
them cause their ranked #1 in the nation too.

Preseason thoughts?

So who are the top 20 teams in Northern California and why?

If we all contribute a school or four, we should be able to come up with a pretty interesting list.

The usual suspects are easy to pick out, and ordering them will be a challenge, but who are the sleeper teams in your area, if any?

For example, in the East Bay, Berkeley should be better with all those young players a year more experienced and Piedmont may have those transfers eligible, though one is supposedly hurt. On my side of the tunnel, though, it's hard to think of anyone after Miramonte, though Carondelet will still have some firepower. Hard to say, though, but maybe someone has some other insights.

Practice starts in two weeks ... though of course Mater Dei began practice in mid-August. A little advantage for Southern Section teams.

MLK Shootout @ Pittsburg High (Results)

First I want to thank all the teams that participated and another public apology to Oakland High for them not getting a game from Edison of Stockton, Edison thought the event was on Monday.

Oakland Tech 65, Foothill 63

College Park 54, McClymonds 41

Oakland High (win by forfeit)

Salesian 60, Deer Valley 38

Pittsburg 38, Mission San Jose 32

HMB 60 OCEANA 28 hmb moves on to 3-0 in league play

HMB moved on to a 3-0 record in league play and 12-2 overall. HMB had 3 players in double figures Walling had 10, Rupert had 12, and their 6'-0" soph Ally Longaker lead them again with yet another double double 13pts. and 12 rebs.

HMB will be put to the test tonight as they face off with the 2 time defending PAL NORTH champions Westmoor Rams. If I'm correct, Westmoor hasn't lost a league game in 2 years. So if HMB wants a shot at the PAL NORTH title, that road goes though Westmoor.

Takeaways from Day 1 of SMS MLK Showcase

Lincoln (Stockton) is good now and will continue to get better. They have two good sophomore guards in Tillman and Hendrix, can pressure the ball and shoot it. With St, Mary's-Stockton likely headed to Open, Lincoln could go on a run in a wide open D1 race.

Enterprise is down from last year. Kamira Sanders can score it, but doesn't do much outside of that. Tough to replace the senior players they graduated. Should still win section, but don't expect another NorCal run.

Mitty and Sacramento both had moments, but it was a physical game without much flow in the Monarchs' win. Mitty has a real good sophomore guard in Heleyna Hill, who was the difference in the win. I would have Mitty and SHC in the second tier to St. Ignatius in the WCAL. Sacramento is also young and has a good stable of guards who can drive. Aliceah Hernandez is a solid shooter. It will be interesting to see if the Dragons can blend the pieces together for another section run.

St. Mary's-Berkeley has played a tough schedule and lost to Narbonne on Saturday. The Panthers are young and have some young guards to watch including Villa. I also like Carolyn Gill. The key for the Panthers is Ma'Ane Mosley, who can carry a team at times but also settle into being a standard player.

Narbonne guard Lateica Smith (Seton Hall) is very good and worth going out to watch on Monday. They play Lincoln (Stockton),

St. Mary's-Stockton was dominant against a really good Sierra Canyon team in the first half. SC got it to single digits late, but the Rams controlled the bulk of the action. Like their win over SI, St. Mary's had a big advantage at the line led by Cayton. Sierra Smith also played well along with Kat Tudor. Sierra Canyon plays SI on Monday.

Mater Dei was very good with skill and size. Andee Velasco (LMU) is one of my favorites to watch. A talented player who has accepted a role and does it at a high level. Samuelson was very good as usual and junior post Ally Rosenblum has made goo strides. Not many weaknesses here.

Miramonte trailed 29-8 after the first quarter, but seemed to get more comfortable as the game went on. Plenty of attention was on Ionescu defensively, but she was able to have an impact drawing 10 fouls. The big thing was Miramonte wasn't able to get in the open floor for easy looks in transition.

McClatchy survived against Troy with a 44-41 win. Jordan Cruz (2017) played well in the second half to pace the Lions, who are still without Destiny Lee. This is a team that isn't close to the preseason expectations laid on them and struggled to get good offense much of the night. They were solid on D. McClatchy plays Pinewood on Monday and Troy faces Vanden.

Qb from McClymonds

I know the kid from McClymonds was suspended for the year this year but he is a Jr. Any word on what he's doing next? Is he still enrolled at Mack? Did he or Will he be transferring back to San Ramon/Monte Vista? This was a strange situation not use to seeing kids transferring in to the hood. Just wondering what outcome was.

MD vs MM

My thoughts MD coach and staff, head and shoulders above the rest, recognizing everything MM did in one possession and quickly adjusting to it, then taking advantage of it. When MM started with zone & 1 to limit KLS, Kiernan made the team aware to get KLS the ball in transition before the defense was locked in, MD went inside to Rosenblum for easy buckets, and in my opinion the best point gaurd in the state Velasco controlling the entire game.

Going to watch the game specifically for the KLS vs SI show, it was MD defense that stole the show. It totally suffocated MM from the tip. I'm not sure what the offensive game plan for MM was, but it was non existent. It had nothing designed to free up SI for play making. Because MD swithed everything and trapped all screens, MM coach just seem to except the inevitable beat down, which clearly frustrated SI to the point she was cursing at and shoving her teammates throughout the game. At one point MM coach sent in a sub for SI and SI refused to come out and sent the sub back to the bench to much chagrin to the coach.

MM coach may still have won a quiet victory at SMS, saw him what you may call recruiting for his summer Cal-Stars Elite team. When summer rolls around I bet there will be at least 1 or 2 more SMS players, playing for Cal-Stars Elite this summer. With MM having a very slim shot at winning the OPEN title, Kelly appears definitely engaged to recruit for Cal Stars Elite to make a run at EYBL 2015 title.

Cal Bears & Lack of Local Recruiting

A little baffled when looking at the recruiting trend of Cal. "The grass is greener on the other side" is what they seem to think by not recruiting their own back yard. Their is enough talent in NorCal (NCS, CCS, SJS, & JUCO) to where they can be successful addressing most of their needs. I am not saying that they should not recruit other areas, but any top notch program has to fight to own their own back yard and community. You have players that want to be at Cal who have grown up watching Cal and will stick it out there. People from other states or regions may not do the same if they are not playing right away. Most of their current local talent came under Tedford. Got to have a presence at home guys. A little disturbing.

Best Players in NorCal by class?

Now that the season is at a midway point, who are Norcal 2015 finest?

2018 Freshman Aquira DeCosta SMS - (starting on #4/#5 best team in the nation, playing/winning vs national powers on a routine basis this season)

2017 Sophmore Sierra Smith SMS - (starting point guard on #4/#5 best team in the nation, leading her squad to national success)

(Tough call here for 2016)

2016 Junior Sabrina Inosecu MM - (best scoring/shooting guard in the country, Team USA 2 time gold medal winner, can do everything on the court needed to win)

Or is it?

2016 Junior Aarion Mcdonald BC - (still under the national radar but becoming a force very quickly, already a 40+ game this season)

Seeing Inosecu and McDonald play for a few years in a 1 on 1 match up playing 10 games, they may split 5-5? Both very tough aggressive players)

2015 Senior Brijanee Moore WR (transfer from SMS) - (helped Team Taurasi to win NIKE EYBL 2014 National Championship)

Best in the State?

2018 Freshman Aquira DeCosta SMS - (starting on #4/#5 best team in the nation, playing vs national powers on a routine basis this season)

2017 Sophmore Ayanna Clark HS? - (helped LBP to State Open Title and won MVP of 2014 OPEN DIVISION)

Seeing Inosecu and McDonald play for a few years in a 1 on 1 match up playing 10 games they may split 5-5? Both very tough aggressive players)

2015 Katie Lou Samuelson MD - (Not just best in the state but best in the Nation as well)

Please chime in on your thoughts Clay, BD, Jazz.... Please talk your different players up not these players down. Thanks
