SJND crash and burn...

I was just looking over Maxpreps and their rankings and I spotted SJND and all their forfeits and 1 win and all I could think of is WOW!!! Dont forget that the last NCS OPEN champ was SJND. How hard and fast did that program crash? The closest comparison I can think of is when SMU football got the death penalty back in the day to whats happened at SJND.

The administration at SJND really screwed the pooch on this one.

Playoff formats

Simply put, nothing works.

If you do it by enrollment, Pinewood wins D5 every year. And privates that recruit -- and there are only a few -- punch way above their weight.

If you do it by recent history, the school that was good for three years thanks to a great class now is out of its league and will get pounded until an adjustment is made.

If you do it by this year's results, you wind up with brackets that favor the team that just missed going up a division and punish the team that is 16th out of 16, or eighth out of eight.

If you split the privates and publics, there aren't enough private schools to fill all the divisions, not to mention the fact that all the titles are even more watered down than before. Even if you just created three private divisions, there would still be issues as some bigger privates don't take sports seriously, and some small ones do.

In addition, the public school titles become even less impactful because no matter how good the public school, the fact that it didn't have to beat the privates in postseason can't be overcome.

So unless you have a solution, continual complaints about the CCS Open or NorCal seedings are pretty pointless. To me, the Open system is the best, though obviously far from perfect -- like the old line about democracy being a terrible way to run a country except for the fact it's better than any other way to run a country.

St Patricks St Vincent vs Vallejo - TCAL Semifinals

Bruins beat Vallejo something like 83 - 36 in the semi-finals of TCAL.
I'll be honest, they looked pretty impressive tonight. I'm a little leary about an Open division bid though because of their lack of size. Would prefer to see them play at the division 1 level.

Regardless, they are playing well and have had a terrific season. Championship Saturday night I would assume against Salesian. Go Bruins!

Ponderosa 27-0! Perfect reg season

26-0 now after a tough 72-63 win on the road against a solid Placer team. They go for history Friday night! Currently last remaining undefeated in calif. I’ve been talking them up all year and they continue to impress. Old school team that you would see 20 years ago when kids grew up playing together at early age and stayed together.

Look for a deep post season run in d2.

PAL South in flux

As of this evening, the possibility of a three-way title tie looms. M-A and Burlingame have two losses. Carlmont has one. All three won their games Friday. The Scots must face Burlingame on the Panthers' floor Tuesday night in a PAL South pandemic makeup affair. If BHS pulls out a W, a three-way tie is secured. If not, the Scots grab the crown outright. Happily, fans are now allowed back into the Burlingame gym. So a raucous gathering can be expected.

Seven seniors will play their final regular-season home game tonight for the Cougars. Three are starters, Aidan Mahaney, Matt Radell, and Cade Bennett.

Also, Gabe Johnson, Justin Yasukochi, Justin Chan and Tyler Vineyard will play their last home game tonight…

Of course, all seven are hoping to play in a whole bunch of postseason games, mostly here in the Cougars’ Lair.

Right now, the Coug frosh are takin’ care of business , leading Las Lomas by 32 mid-4th quarter.
