That sound you heard last night in the Central Coast Section was champagne corks popping. Why? Because three public schools defeated three WCAL football outfits on 2018 opening weekend. St. Ignatius, Valley Christian and Bellarmine all fell to public schools Friday night. That doesn't happen often. In fact, it's tough to recall the last time it occurred. So you can understand why the CCS publics (who have borne the brunt of the WCAL schools for years) would celebrate with bubbly, at least in a manner of speaking. Oh, yes, that winning public trio: Menlo-Atherton, Wilcox and Palo Alto. Cheers. More Korbel brut, please.
