EBAL Mountain - NCS Semifinals D1 & D2

Berkeley is D1. I know they played weak team from the CCS a few weeks ago and won something like 68-7. I don’t know if they would have been considered a D2 team. Or possibly the Nevada team they beat? It depends on how the NCS views their division status. But if CVC can’t beat Cal, SRV or Foothill, chances are they won’t beat MV or win many games should they somehow sneak in to the D2 playoffs.

They would run the table in the D2 NorCal bracket or at least should. Easily the easiest bracket in the NorCal and for that matter probably the state.

I don’t know if 4-6 would get them in. NCS requires being at least .500 in at least one of these areas:

1) Overall
2) In league
3) Vs teams in your division (2).

So if they are say 1-1 or maybe 1-0 vs. D2 teams, they could still qualify. And would likely still be a top 4 seed. Foothill is actually also a D2 team this year, so that CVC-Foothill game could be a huge game for the Uglies.
If Clayton Valley loses to Foothill, they won’t be in the playoffs since they would play Monte Vista and De La Salle after

They would end up under .500 at 4-6, but the question is whether or not they have beaten a D2 team. If they have beaten a D2 team, and then lose to Foothill, they could still Possibly qualify with a .500 record against D2 teams.

I don’t think they’ll lose to both Foothill and MV, but I didn’t think they’d lose to Cal & SRV either.

CVC rendered the question moot as to whether or not they’d be playoff eligible should they lose to Foothill with a resounding 41-0 thumping of the Falcons.

DLS romped 52-0 over SRV as expected.

The game of the night in the EBAL Mountain was a thriller as Cal staked out a 14-7 halftime lead. That score held until the final minute of the game as MV scored on a QB sneak with 25 seconds left to pull with 14-13. They elected to go for 2 and the win and speedster Jacob Oliphant put the game away with the 2-pt reception.

This game was a reversal of the 2011 MV-Cal thriller. In that game, the headsy Cal QB marched the Grizz the length of the field in the final minute, scoring on a pass play with 10 seconds left to pull within 1. They also elected to go for 2 and ran the exact same play for the victory. What comes around goes around.

Not sure how the season will shake out from here on out. But just assume CV doesn’t win next two MV & DLS they finish league at 1-4. Seems odd to me this would qualify for playoffs. Teams getting run in league but schedule weak preseasons get rewarded with post season play?

I don’t necessarily agree with it, but it’s now the norm these days, teams with losing records make the playoffs in many sports. I’m from the old school where you didn’t even make the playoffs unless you won your league.
The sad thing is, they’ll likely be one of the top seeds in D2 and with Campo losing to Acalanes last night a favorite to move on to regionals.

I remember that game. Jeff Lockie Duck recruit who backed up Mariota was the MV QB and EBAL MVP. Three year starter QB for DLS was second team. FOUR D1 recruit QBs that year. Unheard of.

They should run the table in D2 bracket. NorCal D2 is probably the weakest bracket in the state.

Not necessarily, Campolindo, Vintage, and San Leandro could challenge Clayton Valley for the NCS D2 title

I don’t see any of those teams beating CVC. Campo is a two loss squad who just lost to Acalanes and Mac. Vintage lost to the 2-5 Bells. SL has two losses as well. Factor all that in the fact CVC is a legit D1 program playing down I don’t see those teams having much shot. But time will tell they have to play the games.

Truth be told when CVC plays MV. Cal/MV with no passing game, as in years past, are both down. In the last decade CVC would’ve been plowed by the EBAL (now) Mountain public schools. The same schools would’ve physically pounded ANY D2 competition. But it’s fairly apparent this year is vastly different.
Macy at Campo knows planning for big games. His L against Aca looks bad...but finally he got an (albeit weak) EBAL game and won.

SRV with last second FG to beat Cal 24-21.

MV 31 - CVC 21. Uglies fall to1-3 in their new league and face Sparty next week.

Non-league Amador Valley 28 - Foothill 21 in an old EBAL rivalry game.

DLS bye.

All 6 EBAL Mountain teams made the playoffs, with 4 of them winning last night to move on to the semifinals. SRV played MV in a rematch of their regular season OT thriller so one team had to lose, and MV squeezed out a hard fought 9-6 victory last night. 6th seed Cal got punished by 3rd seeded Liberty 50-18, but it was just 28-10 in the 4th quarter before things got ugly for the Grizz.

D1
DLS 69 - Amador Valley 14
MV 9 - SRV 6
Liberty 50 - Cal 18

D2
CVC 35 - Napa 9
Foothill 41 - San Leandro 20

NCS D1 Playoffs This Weekend

Friday - All EBAL Mountain semifinal

5) Monte Vista at 1) DLS - Sparty won the first go 'round 49-14 and CalPreps has them favored in this one 46-7. This would be the most shocking upset of the year if MV were to pull it off, but they'll be fortunate to stay within 5 scores. Beating their arch rival SRV last week was the high point of their season. DLS 45-10.

Saturday - All BVAL semifinal

3) Liberty at 2) Pittsburg - Their first meeting was a classic, with Pitt prevailing in OT 24-21 to regain the BVAL title they lost to the Lions last year. CalPreps has this one 31-28 for Pitt. This one promises to be just as heated, with the season on the line and a chance to take on DLS. I'm taking Pitt in another barn burner 42-38.

NCS D2 Playoffs This Weekend

Friday - All EBAL Mountain semifinal

5) Foothill at 1) CVC - CVC won the first matchup 41-0 in order to qualify for the playoffs, and their first and only EBAL Mountain league win in their maiden voyage. CalPreps has CVC favored 35-17 in the rematch. The Falcons should put up a much better fight this time around, but I've got CVC prevailing 35-20.

Saturday

3) Campo at 2) Vintage - Frankly I was a little surprised that Vintage got the #2 seed here, but in review it came down to a common opponent in Acalanes. The Crushers beat them 28-10 in week 3, and Campo was upset by the Dons 5 weeks later 17-7. CalPreps has Campo winning 20-19, but I've got the more experienced Cougars winning 28-13 to face CVC in the finals.

As expected, EBAL Mountain top seeds DLS (D1) and CVC (D2) are both killing it, up 49-0 and 35-0 at the half, and well on their way to the finals.
