WCAL Football 2019-20 - NCP's All NorCal Team + SF Chron All Metro & Merc Teams

Serra also still has to play S.I. who gave VC a very tough game. The Wildcats have improved vastly since the start of the season and should be competitive with Serra dependent on how Serra operates without McLemore at the helm.
I like Serra to Rally vs VC if their D plays well.
Serra will put it on SI decisively in their final week, I would say 28 + victory. No disrespect to SI, but Serra has had their number in a big way for some time.

What’s Serras best win and what is the ranking of that team along with VC’s best win.

As they say WCAL75 "Ask & Ye Shall Receive"..

* Currently Serra is ranked #15 in state & VC is ranked #25. [since over 1000 HS's in CA a differential of 10 is minimal]

* Serra's best win by 58-21 was over Pittsburg 8-1 who is ranked #49 in CA and #3 in North Coast section behind DLS & LIberty.

* VC's best win is close between 2 teams: St. Ignatius 6-2 ranked #86 in state & Wilcox 6-2 ranked #90 in CA. VC won over Wilcox in the season opener by 23-13 [including 3 VC FG's] and then won over S.I. 3 weeks ago by 17-7. In the S.I. game VC led by 3-0 at the 1/2 and was behind at the end of 3 quarters by 7-3 before scoring 2 TD's in the 4th to come from behind for the win.

* Currently in CCS Serra is #1, VC #2, S.I. #4 and Wilcox #5

SI's Teddye Buchanan is the best player in the WCAL at this point. He is a very accurate and poised QB that can run and also plays on defense and a team has to account for him as he is a major disrupter. I would not be surprised if the score was a blowout or goes down to the wire. I believe this game is being played in the Sunset @ SI.

Sans McLemore, Serra's tussle with SI is a tossup at this juncture. Too many unknowns to make a prediction right now. Both have important games this weekend prior to that finale in the Sunset District.

Can you recall the last victory SI had over Serra? I know Riordan's was a couple years back in that arcade game shootout. I want to say SH's last win vs Serra was the Jamar INT game which was 1994.

As stated previously I think S.I. may be the hottest team in the league the way they've played the last several weeks. The VC game if any measuring stick had S.I. with the lead goi having the lead on VC going into the 4th quarter of their game. Regardless of the outcome of the Serra-VC game the Serra-S.I. game should be closely contested.

On another note I reviewed the Serra-SHC game to watch Mclemore's replacement Dominique Lampkin a bit more. The soph is eerily similar and almost like viewing a slightly smaller version of McLemore. They are both elusive and fast, seem comfortable in the pocket and Lampkin appears to be an accurate passer, though his arm-strength is an unknown at this point as to whether he can throw the deep ball and with any accuracy. If Walsh's offensive system is executed properly and without miscues and fumbles then Lampkin may be able to direct the Padre offense against VC. I think it comes down to Serra's O-line in: #1 - opening some kind of holes for the RB's and #2 - giving Lampkin some time on passing downs so the Serra QB isn't running for his life in the backfield.

S.I.'s last win over Serra was in 2005 when the Wildcats won 17-14.

The Irish last vanquished the Padres in 1997 by the score of 33-28.

Lampkin will be just fine stepping into the starting role. He has a lot of playing experience.

Lampkin, Sanchez, Mahasin, Poni, Pedersen, and a few others on the Serra Roster grew up playing together for the SF Warriors youth club team. They have a tight bond, which has grown tighter under Walsh and staff at Serra.

The Mahasin kid, is that the son of the Antone from Terra Nova?

Ah, thanks Rmbr. That 97 team was something. Rance, Sainz, Fiallos led the way. True gamers.

This isn’t PeeWees

This isn’t PeeWees
Correct, WCAL isn’t youth football. Just like VC has kids with extensive youth experience, I was pointing out that Lampkin is not a kid that is wet behind the ears in terms of playing experience, and it helps to have teammates in the huddle whom he is very familiar with. No question that VC will be a tough test for any kid making their first Vars start. I believe he Serra staff will put the kid in a position to succeed.

I think one thing we can all stop and acknowledge is that Poly Day at Serra will have the best food at any game this year!! Now that is 100% lock winner. Roasted Pig for 5 hours in Banana leaves....i mean come on plus all the sides! Little advise....come hungry

Just happened to look at weekly pick/‘ems by some very knowledgible fans & so far 6 to 1 in favor of Valley Christian...
Saw the prior post of “Poly Day” at Serra this Saturday & hoping there will not be 2 Barbeques taking place on the Padre campus..

On a modest plus note for the stressed Padres, they reportedly do return their massive soph tackle to the OL. The kid is 6-4, 290, with nice footwork and some grit. Against a big, deep, physical team like VC, his presence certainly wouldn't hurt.

WCAL Football 2019-20: This Weeks Games

Friday Nite Lites:
St. Ignatius vs Mitty at Foothill College 7:00PM
Bellarmine vs Sacred Heart Cathedral at Kezar Stadium 7:00PM

Saturday Afternoon:
St. Francis at Riordan 2:00PM
Valley Christian at Serra 2:00PM

The Line:
S.I. 6-2 vs Mitty 6-2:
this is the "other" big game this week as the #4 [S.I.] and #6 [Mitty] teams in the CCS battle for 3rd place in the WCALand possibly more. Both have big wins over SF and this will be the biggest game of the season for both teams IMO. S.I. has gotten better as the season has progressed and Mitty surprised many fans [other than myself] with the statement win over the Lancers. S.I. has a balanced offense and a scrappy defense that gave VC all they could handle. S.I. also has Teddye Buchanan who has played superbly on both sides of the ball. Then there are my "dark horse" Monarchs who nose-dived in the standings after the blow-out loss to Marin Catholic earlier this season. Well the Monarchs are back - at least temporarily after defeating SF. Mitty has 3-year QB Shamir Bey for the Wildcats to contend with along with Reymello Murphy a multi-faceted player. S.I. is projected as a TD favorite in this game and although I like S.I. [best team in years'] its too late for me to turn back now and abandon my hopes for the Monarchs so will go with the upset;
Mitty 28-27 over S.I.

Bells 2-6 vs SHC 0-8:
This is one of the games in which the Irish has a shot at a win albeit a long one at that. Can the Irish summon up some motivation and a new game plan to baffle and confuse the Bells? Can SHC sustain momentum for more than one 1/2? Can the Irish possibly score more than 1 TD? Its time to pull out the trick plays and some all-out blitzes Irish as this is one of your 2 remaining chances. You know the Bells will run so stack the line with 11 players including the water boy and hold that line! Now for reality unfortunately...
Bells 20-7 over Irish

SF 2-6 vs Riordan 2-6:
Crusaders get to host Lancers who are desperate for a win after 3 straight losses. Riordan did not perform well in any capacity in their 45-0 shut-out vs the Wildcats last week showing almost no offense with a total of 30 yards. Riordan played well against both Mitty and Bells and needs to play more disciplined football than in the S.I. game - no dropping balls in backfield, throwing into coverage when pressured or receiving team watching kick-offs bounce in the open field. Time to step it up Crusaders or a repeat of the S.I. barbeque last week.
SF 35-14 over Crusaders

Serra vs VC:
a tough call indeed in which Serra was a slight fav before losing their premiere QB to injury for the season. VC is now the favorite by a TD+ with a steady run game and revolving stable of good RB's behind a solid O/L and 2nd best D in NorCal. Almost seems insurmountable odds for the Padres. It will all come down to how well the big play offense operates under #2 QB Dominuque Lampkin and if the other Serra players can step it up around him and that means the Serra O-Line. Will the Padres be dominated once again by a more physical VC team? Will the Padres rush for negative yardage in the game like last year? Will VC be able to run on the Padres at will dominating the line of scrimmage like last year? All things are pointing towards a Warrior victory and why I MUST go with Serra in a retribution win on Poly Day.

The eminent Dr. Rambo is nothing if not chronically optimistic in his VC-Serra diagnosis. But the recent X-rays are not pretty. The Padres are in deep doo-doo in this one. VC defense (those Warrior DB's are something else) is just too much. VC by 7.

SHC has more of a chance than you think vs Bells

Bells best RB/CB out
Bells best LB's are out

Bells can't coach or play well vs passing teams so the fact that SHC has no running game will actually help them this week. It is not far fetched that the
SHC QB will go off and Bells can't keep up with the scoring.

Good Grief Bells.....Can't believe I'm posting this...how did we get here!!

Yes, it's time for a serious Novena in the Land of the San Jose Jesuits. Offerings in the memory of the revered St. John Hanna might be in order. But very few devotional candles will be lit for the Bells and their dismal football fortunes in other WCAL precincts while the Church of Janda decays.

There is hope on the horizon. The Bells freshman team is undefeated. VC freshmen sadly are going the opposite direction.......

Hmm, possibly Coach Janda could cannibalize the undefeated Bells frosh team & bring up the best players in order to survive SHC [?]. As poster HazeG indicates the Bells already thin ranks have been further decimated by injuries on a team where every player is crucial. This further indicates that this IS the Irish chance for victory over the sinking Bells. Will we see a motivated SHC team swarm the Bells Friday nite? Its now or never at Kezar Friday nite Irish...

The current Bell Jr class was one of the top WCAL teams as Frosh and the current Seniors were in the top 4 as Frosh.....what happened that now they are at the bottom? Lack of development....misuse of talent ????

The current Freshman may suffer the same fate if all stays the same

Game at Kezar will be Varsity only. Frosh will play at Bellarmine.

Try praying for the Irish instead. The defense was porous. Bells scored on nearly every drive. It was pathetic to watch.

Both the Bells & SHC suffer from a severe lack of offense with the Irish scoring a single TD in their last 3 games and Bells scoring 1 TD in their last 2 games. Respectively the Bells avg 8 points per game and the Irish 7 PPG.
SO the big question is IF each team can score 1-TD which team has a kicker who can make a FG? Perhaps a TD & a safety would win this game. Certainly the circumstances regarding the winless Irish calls for a flea-flicker or 2, maybe a well executed hook & ladder or perhaps even the old "Fumblerooskie", nothing should be out of bounds so to speak..

Bellarmine Football will not be saved anytime soon because the administration is to weak to stand up to the assistant coach who is really the head coach. He calls all his own shots and is unchecked by the administration. He has created a joyless environment in which he demeans and intimidates his players. He plays favorites and harasses and holds a grudge against players that go out for other sports. His coaching style and the way he treats the team could not be further from the culture Bellarmine tries to cultivate on campus. Yet the Bellarmine administration turns a blind eye. Over the years very successful coaches have been let go for far less yet he remains the ultimate authority. For this reason players and parents are intimidated and scared to speak out against him for fear of lack of support from the school and further mistreatment and loss of playing time.

Sounds like you are the same guy who complained your buddy's friend was not starting because he was a two sport athlete. The best guys play at Bellarmine, including best character. I can assure you the boosters and alumni have taken note he does not salute the flag and never has. The team kneeling was embarrassing to say the least, that was supported by this man. Bellarmine is no longer relevant in the WCAL.

Actually there have been many players who rode the pine or played less than they should because this guy had an issue with them. The Bells are a top team when they have college level talent but what team isn't . How smart do you have to be to hand off to Uswa or the Olugbode brothers.

Props to SI for the victory
The addition of Bey and Buchanan would have made a less than exciting game entertaining. Penalties, mistakes and very little likelihood of a big play coming from either side made this a tough one to watch.
