BREAKING: Folsom v De La Salle

I love the what if games, but this has gotten in depth of who can go undefeated/what resume is better against two supposedly good schedules without knowing how their opponents turn out. Fun banter I guess

In terms of new blood, that will come when someone beats them (could be August 17. could be another date). The veer is boring argument is asinine. Like saying a spread is basketball on turf. Doesn't really matter if the results are there.

Also, nobody up here was beating Bosco 16 and Mater Dei 17. The veer worked fine when non super teams were coming out of the south.

The “Boring” veer will look much more...”exciting” this year. You’re right though, I guess it’s a matter of opinion if you’d rather watch Folsom pass 68.5% of the time or you’d rather watch precision blocking and execution by HS kids in DLS. I think DLS will make a good showing in the Open. Not saying they’ll win it, but this DLS squad will just be better suited to handled that scenario. My .02.

One of the reasons that they have super teams now. They got tired of DLS whoopin’ dat booty.

Still very early (haven't even had scrimmages yet), but I think the Open game will be double digits for the south. Those two or three teams are just different than the rest, including DLS

True. They literally have a D1 at every position...and one or two behind them.

It was mentioned earlier that the NorCal Open title game is still not happening this season (“Folsom Rule”). Whoever is chosen as the Open team will not have to play anyone else in the regional final before taking on the SoCal Open team. Also, Pitt will likely be facing DLS in the NCS Open championship game, which will put the loser of that game out of the state Open equation.

Oops... I should stay in the hoops thread... I follow that game about 30 gazillion times more closely, and am much better apprised about the playoff/scheduling rules there.

So, let's say DLS beats Folsom, wins the rest of the way including Pitt in the NCS title game, while Folsom goes undefeated other than DLS... Could DLS and Folsom meet again in the NorCals, or would they be put into different divisions in the NorCals? I'm lost now... :)

There will be no regional championship game for the top 2 teams. The top chosen team goes Open and the 2nd and 3rd teams would play each other for a chance to play the SoCal D1 champ for the D1 title. Plus, there are about a dozen other divisions now so there are quite a few teams that are now considered to be state champs. It’s all good Kiddman, nobody sees more hoops than you.

Thanks for clearing that up for me... Anyway, this DLS-Folsom game and the fact I personally know a member of the 49ers office staff (info. tech, no less), and the fact the 49ers' new QB totally changed the whole outlook in their locker room once he started playing last year... It seems my interests are being dragged back into football at all levels. (BTW, I've always been a Raiders fan, but I'm-a jumpin' ship. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out to Vegas. Raiders!)

But still, November 20 can't come quick enough... :)

My guess is the winner of the DLS-Folsom game eventually faces Pitt in the NorCal title game... For the right to get boat-raced by John Bosco in the State Bowl.

There is not a Norcal title game

There used to be — it was fantastic

Folsom didn’t want to play DLS anymore and angled to go to the Helix Bowl so they could just tell prleople they ‘re state champs and would beat DLS

Pitt and DLS will likely see each other in NCS Open playoffs

Loser of that game will likely play Folsom for right to play Helix

False. Went above and beyond to get DLS this year AND next.

Not false as everyone in stare knows well

Not saying you didn’t want game by this point

— have your best team ever
— DLS doesn’t appear as scary as your nightmares anymore
— tired of going 16-0 and impressing absolutely no one

Be careful what you wish for and let me just be the first to say that it was nice knowing you

1. Not best team ever
2. DLS being scary is not a thing
3. 16-0 last year with all juniors who weren't supposed to win ANYTHING, was impressive.

I will be here. I hope you are too.

This narrative won't save you next Friday night.

FIFY

DLS and Pitt for the right to play in the 2018 Helix Bowl. It will probably be a good game to be honest.
Wow really. You are way out there.

You know I don’t hate Folsom. In fact there will be five of us buddy’s going to the game together and one is a Folsom fan. He graduated with Richardson at CP. there is a lot of banter going on between him and the rest of us but even he know his chances aren’t all that good.

I think our chances are beyond good. I think they're great.

What’s Folsom’s best team ever? I’m guessing 2014?

Depends. I am partial to the 2010 team, so I may not be the one to ask.

In regards to this years team- I do not think they are the "best." However, I do believe this team has the best chance of beating a DLS team, for differen't reasons.

The Veer is anything but boring when done correctly. Anyone saying it's boring probably can't stop it.

2014 was Folsom's best team so far. The 2014 team was much better up front than 2010. 2018 team hasn't proven anything yet.

Veer is the same as Single Wing, Double Wing, Wishbone, Flexbone, and Wing-T. I personally don't like watching any of these offenses and find them boring to watch. I think it is fair to say that any offense that relies on running dive or belly as the foundation is boring.

But DLS plays great football and is not boring. When I watch other teams play, I prefer to watch a team that runs a passing based offense. I prefer sophisticated offenses.

I mean, if the north used state qualifiers as feeder programs like they do in the south I'm pretty sure they could scrap together someone to challenge.

Another thing to consider though...The spread offense, as much as it scores and moves the ball, makes kids soft. If there is one given about this game other than the running clock is that De La Salle will be the more physical of the two teams.

That is complete garbage. Just ask MD and BG. Two spread teams that drilled DLS last year. And of course, almost every college team in the country. That is why so many college teams run Veer. (And Wing-T, and Double Wing, etc.).

DLS is the exception, not the rule.

You're free to do the research yourself.
YOU stated that "they said that last time." Who did? Names? Anything? You said it not me. I would hope youd provide the information in regards to your claim. I've literally never heard someone who ever said such.

When the SMU Mustangs with Eric Dickerson and Craig James ran the Wishbone (Triple Option), that was not boring.

Disagree. The was fun to watch in the 1980s. With the evolution of football offenses and elite athletes, this is no longer the case.

This of course is my opinion.

After Folsom was beaten twice by DLS, there was a change made to the NorCal Playoff system. This change in the playoff system was branded and will for evermore carry on for eternity a title name which I will not mention. I am moving on from those unscrupulous times and looking forward to the Folsom vs DLS matchup on 8/17/2018.

8 days and Counting.

Talking about past rules that nobody can currently change, will do nothing to save DLS in 8 days.

In an ironic twist, DLS gets the wrath of the other end of that rule.

I agree. I can't wait.

Spread teams rarely win squat and they’re prone to being soft because they need the agility along th lines. Then Alabama or IMG come in a destroy them. HS Super teams don’t count as the norm when you can line up 7 guys instead of 11 and still win. How many spread teams win big in college? Zero. That’s how many. The NFL won’t even entertain the idea anymore of spread offenses.

In this game, Folsom may move the ball betwen the 20s. But once it’s time to try and punch it in from the red zone, and the DLS secondary doesn’t have to worry about anything over th top, it’s over for rover. If Folsom can’t get big plays early, or if they fall behind, this game won’t be that close in the end. In my opinion this is a bad matchup for Folsom.

Im pretty suprised to see so much socal love on the norcal board. Crowning socal open champs in early august? I get that sjb and md have a lot of d1 players on their team but im confused with the lack of faith in our norcal football programs and coaching. Norcal posters praising socal while ripping each other a new one. Just seems crazy and a lil suspect to me. Id love for my gboys to win out and go to the big dance, but trust me if that doesnt happen, i will support any norcal champion that travels down south this year and any year that follows. And i dont care about the odds, im rooting for the north! Placer went down south and faced a team with tons of talent and took it to crenshaw, falling by only three points. Did anyone see that coming minus the placer faithful? My gboys beats a supposedly stacked poly team by smacking them in the mouth. Folsom took it to a serra team that was loaded and has a few players in the nfl. I say please use your inner voice and lets not empower the south too much on OUR board, no matter how much talent they have. The game is played on the field and not on paper. On any given day, any team can get they axx kicked. Go norcal and good luck this year!!

I was going to have a nice night at the Niner game and not let this stuff bother me. But the hell are you talking about the other end of the rule. You just can’t help but make a fool of yourself.

Maybe if it wasn’t a free for all down there, teams like Folsom and DLS could actually look forward to having a chance.

Yes, the current free for all in SoCal is definitely tilting the playing field in their favor, but I do get tired of hearing D1 players here D1 players there. I might get a lot of pushback for saying this, but DLS's Open game last year against MD would have been a much closer contest if DLS had a quarterback that could throw, didn't have the quarterback and running back together in one fashion or another fumble the ball 6 times, the quarterback throw an interception, and have their star running back at 100% not injured and playing at maybe 80%. Frankly, DLS’s last 2 seasons dealt with uninspiring quarterback play, suspect ball control, and mistakes in a number of facets of the game. But also remember when DLS played Long Beach Poly, Poly was loaded with D1 players, but DLS had a quarterback that could throw, no fumbles, no interceptions, and a running back at 100%. And yes I am aware at that time DLS had a few unknown superstars on that team. I’m not saying DLS could have beaten MD in the Open, but they could have made MD sweat a little until the final outcome.

And please I don’t want to hear how big MD’s line was or how great their quarterback and wide receivers were. When DLS is clicking on all cylinders with the veer and is able to infuse a reasonable passing game, they can compete against any of these D1 loaded teams. (Remember, I said compete, I didn’t say win. But one never knows with possibly a few breaks falling their way and again everything clicking stranger things have happened in a High School Football game).
