CIF Sac-Joaquin Secton Basketball Selection Show today at 1:30 p.m. on NFHS

The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section basketball selection show will take place on 2/10/24 at 1:30 pm on the NFHS Network. The basketball playoffs are coming! Don't miss the excitement!

Lincoln of the AAA

Saw them last night at Mills in Millbrae. Impressive. They handled the PAL Bay Division (A league) champs with relative ease, winning by a tidy 17 points. They were never in danger in the second half. The Mustangs, who have very little competition in the weak AAA, would probably be one of the Central Coast Section's stronger public school entries if they were part of that section (as they should be). It's not clear where they should be placed in NorCals, but certainly no lower than Division III. They are unbeaten in the AAA. To be frank, their 20-4 overall record and SOS are not terribly impressive. But two of their losses were forfeits during the holiday season. Their other two defeats were: To Branson by 4 and Lick-Wilmerding by 3 in OT. Still, when all is said and done, the eyeball test is key. And the Mustangs do, in fact, score in that important category.

Let's Make a Difference: Advocate for Equitable High School Sports Policies

Dear NorCalPreps Community,

It's time to take a closer look at the transfer policies affecting high school sports across the North Coast Section (NCS), Central Coast Section (CCS), Oakland Section, San Francisco Section, and San-Joaquin Section. These policies impact all our student-athletes, boys and girls alike, creating barriers that limit their ability to compete, grow, and achieve their full potential.

A United Effort for Change

The restrictive nature of these policies doesn't just affect individual athletes; it challenges the very essence of high school sports. Our goal is to ensure every student-athlete, regardless of their sport or background, has equitable opportunities to succeed and showcase their talents.

Your Stories Are Key

The power of personal experience cannot be overstated. Whether you've been directly impacted by these policies or have seen their effects on others, your story is a vital piece of the puzzle. By sharing your journey, you highlight the need for a more supportive and fair system for all.

How to Help

We're looking to gather experiences from across the board — missed opportunities, navigating complex rules, or any other challenges these policies have presented. Your insight is crucial in painting a comprehensive picture of how these rules affect our student-athletes on and off the field.

Let's unite our voices for a cause that matters. Share your experience, and let's work towards creating a more inclusive and fair environment for high school sports.

Delta Leage Title Tnite

Big matchup tnite at Jesuit as they take on 1st place Sheldon for a potential share of champ of the delta league. Jesuit lost 67-61 to sheldon a few weeks ago and is riding a 7 game winning streak. Sheldon in 10-0 in league and riding a 10 game streak. Should be another great matchup. Jesuit needs a big game from Kevin Haught and consistent play from Cole Epperson. When both play well they are tough to beat. I don't know if Ahjani Lewis played in their 1st game but he's a nice contributor as well. I will take the home team mauraders 64-62.

Two CCS Games Tonight (2/8) with Big Post Season Implications

Branham 19-2 (8-1) hosts Evergreen Valley 18-5 (9-0) at 7 pm. A spot in CCS open and its automatic ticket to NorCals likely hangs in the balance.

Hollister 18-4 (12-0) visits Alisal 20-2 (11-1) at 7 pm. Don't think either team will be in Open regardless of the outcome, but the winner will get the better seed in CCS D1 and an easier path to advance to states.

NCS seeding: O'Dowd or Piedmont

So despite splitting two games, Piedmont is the designated league champ. That means they get a guaranteed first-round home game, but does it mean Piedmont should be seeded ahead of O'Dowd?

The NCS committee will make that call, and the default would be to go with the league designation.

But, look at MaxPreps:

Piedmont: 16-5 record, 22.19 rating, 13.7 strength of schedule
BOD: 15-5 record, 29.01 rating, 21.5 SOS (toughest in the section)

Both will be in the Open. One is likely to be the third or fourth seed, the other fifth or sixth.

Another issue: If they are seeded 3 and 6, or 4 or 5, they would play in the first round. Would NCS do that, or separate them to avoid a rematch?

There are other issues for the Open, of course, but this will be a test of whether the committee thinks it through or just takes the easy way out.

Campo @ CVC, DAL Semi’s

Naturally, I was the first spectator in the gym…

Anyway…. Campo is 21-6 after taking down College Park (Pahk if it’s Bahstin) by a 51-45 count in its most recent game.

CVC is 20-7 after blasting Acalanes 57-31 on the same night to set this meeting up.

When the Cougs and the Uglies faced off back in January, the Uglies came from far back to nip the Cougs by a 52-46 score. I think the 4th quarter score was 23-10.

Of course, I’m hoping we can reverse the result this time….

NCS Open Division

Coming up in about a week or so, we will see where everyone gets seeded. Here are my picks for the NCS Open division:

1) Salesian (TCAL-R) - Bye

2) De La Salle (EBAL) - Bye

3) Branson (MCL) vs. 6) San Ramon Valley (EBAL)
Technically SRV should be the 5 seed, but they usually like to separate teams from their own conference. This would be a really good matchup between two well coached teams.

4) Granada (EBAL) vs. 5) University (BCL-W)
Granada is really strong and would give University a good game. Right now the bottom teams considered have bad enough losses to where I can’t see them passing University.

Teams considered: Montgomery, Cardinal Newman, Bishop O’Dowd

Not sure how it would work with the matchups after the 1st round

SFL Standings

Wanted to start something similar to what we have going on the WCAL. Let me know if you have any other leagues that should be spotlighted

Whitney 2-0 (Beat Oak Ridge, Granite Bay)
Rocklin 2-0 (Beat Del Oro, Oak Ridge)
Del Oro 1-1 (Beat Folsom, Lost to Rocklin)
Folsom 1-1 (Beat Granite Bay, Lost to Del Oro)
Granite Bay 0-2 (Lost to Whitney and Folsom)
Oak Ridge 0-2 (Lost to Whitney and Rocklin)

Friday's Schedule:

Rocklin at Folsom
Granite Bay at Oak Ridge
Del Oro at Whitney
